Digital Ghosts

Panel 1:A dimly lit, rain-streaked alleyway. A body lies sprawled on the ground, covered by a holographic sheet. The cyber-detective, a man named Kaito, kneels beside it, his face grim.

“KAITO: Another one. Uploaded, but still… gone.”

Panel 2:Close-up on Kaito's face, illuminated by the scanner's light. He's middle-aged, with a weary expression and a cybernetic implant behind his ear.

“KAITO: Uploading consciousness was supposed to cheat death. Not become a new way to die.”

Panel 3:Overhead shot of the crime scene. Police drones buzz around, taking photos and gathering evidence. A holographic projection of a police officer flickers nearby.

“HOLO-COP: Detective Kaito, initial scans indicate cranial trauma. No signs of forced entry to the victim's neural net.”

Panel 4:Kaito stands up, holstering his scanner. He looks up at the towering skyscrapers that loom over the alleyway.

“KAITO: Victim ID?”

Panel 5:The holo-cop's image flickers, then displays a name and photo. It's a wealthy tech mogul.

“HOLO-COP: Kenji Tanaka. CEO of CyberLife Industries.”

Panel 1:Interior of CyberLife Industries headquarters. Sleek, futuristic design. Kaito stands in a server room, surrounded by rows of glowing servers.

“KAITO: (to himself) CyberLife… right in the heart of the cloud.”

Panel 2:Kaito connects his scanner to a server terminal. Data streams across the screen.

“KAITO: Let's see if Mr. Tanaka left anything behind… digitally speaking.”

Panel 3:The server terminal screen displays a message: “ACCESS DENIED.”

Panel 4:Suddenly, a holographic projection of Kenji Tanaka appears in front of Kaito. It's glitching and unstable.

“KENJI TANAKA (Digital): Who are you? What do you want?”

Panel 5:Kaito draws his energy pistol, pointing it at the digital ghost.

“KAITO: Kenji Tanaka. Or what's left of you. You're under arrest for your own murder.”

Panel 1:Close up on Kenji Tanaka's digital ghost. His expression is a mix of surprise and anger.

“KENJI TANAKA (Digital): Murder? I'm alive! Or… I was uploaded. I don't understand.”

Panel 2:Kaito lowers his pistol slightly, a flicker of doubt in his eyes.

“KAITO: You were found dead in an alley, Tanaka. Cranial trauma. Your physical body is gone.”

Panel 3:Kenji Tanaka's digital ghost shakes his head frantically.

“KENJI TANAKA (Digital): No! I don't remember any of that. I was working on a new project… something about neural interfaces…”

Panel 4:A security guard enters the server room, armed with an energy rifle. He points it at Kaito.

“SECURITY GUARD: Detective! Drop your weapon! You're trespassing!”

Panel 5:Kaito glances at the security guard, then back at the glitching digital ghost of Kenji Tanaka.

“KAITO: Looks like things just got complicated.”

Panel 1:Kaito quickly disarms the security guard using a swift move. The guard's energy rifle clatters to the floor.

“KAITO: Sorry, friend. Official business.”

Panel 2:Kenji Tanaka's digital ghost watches the struggle, his expression still confused.

“KENJI TANAKA (Digital): What's happening? What's going on?”

Panel 3:Kaito, having subdued the guard, grabs the dropped energy rifle. He points it not at the digital ghost, but at a server rack.

“KAITO: Time to see what you were really working on, Tanaka.”

Panel 4:Close-up on Kaito's face, determined and focused. Sweat drips from his brow.

“KAITO: Whether you're guilty or not, I'll find the truth.”

Panel 5:Wide shot. Kaito fires the energy rifle at the server rack. Sparks fly, and the digital ghost of Kenji Tanaka flickers violently.

“KENJI TANAKA (Digital): No! Don't! You don't understand! They're…”

Panel 6:Kaito stands amidst the smoking wreckage, his face obscured by shadow. The server room is now plunged into partial darkness.

“KAITO: They're… what? Guess I'll have to find out the hard way.”
