My Name Is Luna
Standalone issue
Luna walks into a gas station. She fled from the hospital moments ago. She meets Jo, Pete, Sam, and Kim. Jo asks "Where are you going?" and "Do you get out much?" Luna says sometimes. Pete says he gets out a lot too. Sam asks where she's from. Luna says a small town in Scotland, somewhere they haven't heard of. They ask how she got here. Luna says it's a long story. We see a flashback: Luna looking at the sky while her dad slaps her sister. Back to the conversation: Luna explains she's been moving around for a while but is still here, "floating on gravity." Kim tells them to drop the subject about her. They walk into the distance together. Later, they're sitting on the beach at night. Sam puts his arm around her. He says something inappropriate about her being a virgin and mentions a scar. Luna tells him it's not that—he smells. Kim says "good for her" and walks off. Luna follows, kicking stones. As Luna is about to call someone, Pete and Kim appear out of the dark. They ask if she's alright. Luna sits on the pavement and questions whether gestures and words are pathetic. Pete tells her she's gorgeous and would never date Sam. Luna questions who said anything about dating. Pete says she's perfect and tells her to get up, let's go. Luna thinks to herself: am I weird? Luna finds an abandoned caravan with an open window. Inside she sees pictures of herself throughout the ages on the walls. She sits on the bed, questioning life. She brushes her teeth and gets into bed. She dreams of Pete—his smile and generous spirit. But then she pulls the covers over her head.

PAGE 1
Panel 1:A gas station forecourt in early morning light. Luna stands alone near the pumps, her messy shoulder-length black hair with violet streak disheveled, her pale skin striking against the harsh fluorescent overhead lights. She wears a battered oversized black leather jacket covered in tiny handwritten phrases, a simple white vest, ripped tights, and heavy combat boots. A purple ribbon is tied around her left wrist. Her dark expressive eyes are wide and alert, her tiny scar visible through her left eyebrow. She breathes heavily, as if she has just run. The gas station building looms behind her, and the parking lot stretches empty in the early morning.
Narrator:“She ran from the hospital without looking back.”
Panel 2:Luna stands near the counter, her arms wrapped slightly around herself. Her dark expressive eyes meet Jo's. She speaks quietly but with a hint of defiance in her posture. Behind her, Kim watches intently from the back of the store, her sharp eyes tracking Luna's every movement.
“Sam: Do you get out much? I didn't think so Luna: Not really pete: Me either”
Narrator:“Questions came easily. Answers are much harder.”
Panel 3:Luna's face, her dark eyes looking away. She speaks quietly, her jaw slightly tight. The violet streak in her black hair catches the light, Sam is looking at her. Pete is looking at an bottle of coke coca. Kim is hiding her intensity. Luna pauses.
“Sam: Where are you from? Luna: A place you’ve probably never heard of. Small town in Scotland.”
Panel 4:A wide panel. A much younger Anna is outside, staring up at the enormous Scottish sky.
Narrator:“This was when I was my most happy ”
Panel 5:A modest home interior in Scotland, morning light filtering through a window. Luna's father—a fat man wearing glasses and expensive clothing—stands. Across the room, a small girl in a red dress.
Narrator:“What you run from follows.”
Panel 6:BEACH — NIGHT The group sits together on the sand. The sea is almost black beneath the moonlight. Sam puts his arm around Luna.
“Luna: SAM: Hey!”
Narrator:“Luna looks over at him. ”
PAGE 2
Panel 1:Sam is surprised, kim smirks and pete looks away in angst. Luna gets to her feet, brushes the sand from her clothes, and walks off down the beach.
“Luna: No, I am not. It’s your breath. You smell.”
Narrator:“KIM: Good for her.”
Panel 2:Luna sits alone on the pavement, phone in her hand. She is about to call a number. Till Pete and kim arrive
“Kim: You alright? Luna: Do you think words and gestures are pathetic? I mean, what was he expecting? I just met him. I got enough to carry on my shoulders, then men with disguises.”
Panel 3:Pete shrugs. Luna immediately looks at him past the trees.
“pete: I know. Gorgeous girl like you would never date him anyway. Luna: What do you mean? You got no idea.”
Panel 4:Pete looks away from Luna. Luna stares at the floor while pete shushes kim off from speaking.
“Kim: It don't matter. You're grown now. If this happened when you were little, well, then... pete: Enough. You're not special. You're perfect.”
Narrator:“Am I Werid?”
Panel 5:Luna returns to a caravan she found earlier. One of its windows had been left open. She climbs inside. It's dark and strangely peaceful. Across the page we see little fragments of Luna throughout her life: Luna as a little girl. Luna a few years older. Luna as a teenager. Luna now.
Narrator:“Oh, no”
Panel 6:Different faces. Different versions of the same person. She sits alone on the edge of the caravan bed. No dialogue. She brushes her teeth at the tiny sink. Changes. Climbs underneath the covers. Her eyes slowly close. DREAM Pete. His smile. His kindness. The way he held his hand out to her. For a moment, Luna smiles too. Then— Her eyes open. Back inside the caravan. Luna pulls the covers completely over her head.
