The Misfit Guild: “The Ones Who Didn’t Spark”
At Linwood Academy—an ordinary-looking school built on the ruins of an ancient magical civilization—every student is required to take one “Guild Alignment Test” in 7th grade. The test reveals which hidden magical ability they should have… even if they don’t actually have it yet. Most kids manifest powers right away. Some develop them over time. And then… there are the misfits. This comic follows the Misfit Guild, a group of students whose tests revealed extraordinary abilities—but who haven’t shown a single sign of magic. They’re placed in a remedial guild nobody takes seriously.
Linwood Academy's Guild Alignment Test reveals four students – Rae, Jax, Mina, and Theo – who are deemed 'misfits' due to their lack of or malfunctioning magical abilities. Rejected by the established guilds, they are relegated to the Misfit Guild under the care of the cynical Coach Grumble. As they struggle to accept their fate and navigate their awkward orientation, a mysterious surge of magic awakens within the Academy, revealing a hidden emblem and activating Rae's supposedly broken Aether Compass. This event hints at a deeper secret and an unknown destiny, while Professor Vale observes with a knowing smile, indicating a hidden agenda.

“JAX MORENO: Okay, that was officially the weirdest orientation ever. I've set off fewer alarms today than during a Tuesday lecture.”
Panel 2: Close-up on RAE, looking intensely at the Aether Compass. The fractal lights inside are swirling erratically. She looks worried but determined.
“RAE KINCAID: This thing…it’s never done this before. It’s like…it’s reacting to something. Something big.”
Panel 3: COACH GRUMBLE steps forward, his face etched with concern. He reaches out a hand towards the Aether Compass but hesitates.
“COACH GRUMBLE: That compass…it’s more than just a trinket, Rae. It's a key.”
Panel 4: Medium shot of COACH GRUMBLE, his expression grave. He looks directly at RAE.
“COACH GRUMBLE: Legend says the compass reacts to distortions in reality. It can lead you to power…or to your doom. Be careful what you seek, Rae. Some doors are best left unopened.”
Page 22

“RAE KINCAID: Opened or not, that door is already rattling. I need to understand this.”
Panel 2: MINA places a hand on RAE’s shoulder. JAX stands beside them, determination in his eyes. THEO nods in agreement.
“MINA TAO: Then we'll figure it out together. We're a guild, aren't we?”
Panel 3: JAX holds up his Shock Baton, a small spark flickering at the tip. He grins, though a hint of nervousness is visible.
“JAX MORENO: Yeah! Misfits, assemble! ...Or, you know, stand around awkwardly. Either way, we're in this together!”
Panel 4: THEO closes his eyes for a moment, then opens them, a newfound focus in his gaze.
“THEO RIVERS: We may not be what they expected, but perhaps that’s exactly what we need to be.”
Panel 5: Wider shot of the Misfit Guild, all four of them standing together, silhouetted against the faint green glow of the Aether Compass. COACH GRUMBLE watches them from the doorway, a small, almost imperceptible smile on his face.
“COACH GRUMBLE (thought bubble): Let’s see what you can do, kids.”
Panel 6: Full page splash. Exterior shot of Linwood Academy at night. The camera zooms out to reveal the ancient, crumbling ruins beneath the school, barely visible in the moonlight. The Aether Compass glows softly in a window.
