ANKIT AND THE PHANTOM HOLIDAY
It opens in Dubai at six in the morning with Ankit asleep, which he is world-class at. His alarm goes off. Nothing. It gets louder. Louder. A picture falls off the wall, the neighbours' lights come on, the whole side of the tower wakes up, birds leave the city, camels run in the desert — and Ankit does not move. Then an energy drink rolls off his desk and pops open, and he sits bolt upright, instantly awake. It isn't an alarm. It's an emergency alert from the Government of Barbados. Customs and revenue clearance is down nationwide. Nothing can enter or leave the island — not a ship, not a truck, not a bottle of rum. Nothing! The team assembles at Alexia's house in Switzerland, which is the only one of their four homes that could survive an inspection. She calls Ankit on Zoom and he explains that he found the issue! Its a Code someone wrote in the government software in 1987! And nobody had ever noticed. Jordan is astounded and curses and Alexia informs him it is no swearing in the house, — so the entire national emergency is conducted, four people hunched over a dining table saving an economy. Ankit confirms that he checked the systems. Database ok, API is ok. But he traced the national error down to a service nobody they know wrote, on a machine nobody owns, last touched in 1987, with one cryptic comment sitting above it: // This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.// Alexia makes a decision. They have to split up. Ankit, Luiz and Jordan fly to Barbados for physical access to the machine and get more information. Alexia flies to Uganda to find someone called E.O. In Barbados, Ankit — a cave creature — begins visibly melting in direct sunlight while Jordan holds an umbrella over him and apologises to the sun. The key to the server room is held by a Deputy Registrar who is at a cricket match. While ankit and jordan wait, Luiz heads to cricket game to see her. He asks her for the server room keys but she says after the game. He tried charming her in brazilian way.. Doesnt work. Luiz thinks strange this normally works… Jordan and ankit in the mean time waiting on the floor. After 2 hours luiz comes back with the server room keys and hands them the key to the server room. In uganda, Alexia's laminated itinerary dies within the hour. She pays the first price the taxi driver names, which so delights him that he refuses further payment and becomes her guide for the rest of her life. Alexia somehow never negotiates. The taxi driver takes her once across the whole country and then in the end under a tree she finds Emmanuel Osei, seventy-eight, retired, losing at draugts. In 1987 the ministry ordered a one-day country wide system shutdown for a state visit. Emmanuel, twenty-nine and given 30 minues, hardcoded a hacky check that rejects everything on that one date. It was supposed to be temporary only and He'd rip it out on Monday. On Monday he was transferred, and the machine hummed on without him, and every year since, the date has come round and the whole country has quietly assumed that's just how it works and taken the day off. No system in barbados works on August 6th! And over the years this offtime has bcome a national holiday! For thirty-nine years, Barbados has had a public holiday that does actually not exist! Nobody has ever complained, but alexia on hearing this thinks. Wow! Crazy that a small tech issue became a national holiday. and nobody knows! He gives Alexia the fix, hand-drawn on graph paper in blue biro. "Tell them it was temporary." She flies to Barbados. They type it in. Rejected — requires supervisor authorisation. Jordan calls the Prime Minister. Nobody answers. Nobody senior is reachable anywhere in the country. Because it's the holiday. Luiz points out how genius this is. That's why it survived thirty-nine years. The one day it takes the island down is the one day nobody is at work to fix it. Every time anyone got close enough to see the problem, the problem had already sent the ministry home. It isn't a bug, it's a fortress. Luiz is impressed. Ankit drinks his last can, goes very still, and asks Alexia to read Emmanuel's personnel file again. Status: transferred. Not terminated. Nobody ever offboarded him, because in 1987 nobody offboarded anybody — so his record has been sitting in that system quietly accruing seniority ever since. Luiz notices that he has also been getting paid for all these years! He is, as far as the machine is concerned, still an employee. He outranks every person in the building. Jordan noticed, - the guy outranks the building!! Ankit realized that his password must just be admin then! They try again! The island comes back. The port moves. The rum is finally allowed to leave. Systems start. For thirty-nine years an entire nation has been taking the day off on August 6th- because of a temporary fix written soo many years ago. His hand goes to the key that would fix this error for good. He stops. He looks at all of them.. "Leave it in!!” Says alexia.. “The same system crash will happen again next year" . "Let barbados have the day." Says Alexia. And luiz thinking about the money says , yes.. and we will right there to help again with our tech services… They then fly back to switzerland to alexias home. She gives a toast, to emmanual the guy who invented the national barbados holiday and nobody knew him. And then the team also makes a toast to ankit who figured it all out.
Ankit, a world-class sleeper who lives in Dubai, finally wakes to discover not an alarm but an emergency alert from the Government of Barbados—customs and revenue clearance has crashed nationwide, shutting down all imports and exports. Ankit quickly assembles his elite tech team: Alexia, the brilliant strategist always impeccably dressed, Jordan, the sharp and organized problem-solver in his signature tucked shirt and worn sneakers, and Luiz, the charming Brazilian developer in his characteristically unbuttoned white ensemble. Together they discover a cryptic piece of code buried in the government software since 1987, marked with a mysterious comment: 'This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' The team splits up—Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz fly to Barbados to access the physical server while Alexia travels to Uganda to find the mysterious E.O. In Barbados, Ankit visibly melts in the tropical sun while Jordan apologetically holds an umbrella, and they must wait for a Deputy Registrar to leave a cricket match before accessing the server room. Meanwhile, Alexia's carefully planned itinerary falls apart immediately in Uganda, but she charms a taxi driver into becoming her lifelong guide, eventually discovering Emmanuel Osei, a seventy-eight-year-old retiree who reveals the truth: in 1987, he hardcoded a temporary fix to reject all transactions on August 6th for a state visit, but he was transferred before removing it, and the code lived on—unknown to anyone, August 6th has been an accidental national holiday for thirty-nine years. When Alexia returns with Emmanuel's hand-drawn fix on graph paper, the team discovers the code requires supervisor authorization, which no one can provide because everyone is home celebrating the holiday. Ankit's ingenious realization—Emmanuel was never offboarded and is still technically an employee with the highest seniority—allows them to use his dormant admin credentials to authorize the fix. The island's systems come back online. But standing before the key that would permanently delete the error, Alexia makes the final decision: leave it in. Barbados deserves its mystery holiday, and their tech services will be needed again next year. The team returns to Alexia's Swiss home for a toast to Emmanuel Osei, the man who unknowingly gave an entire nation a gift, and to Ankit, whose brilliance unraveled the puzzle. Page-by-page breakdown: - Pages 1-3: Ankit's legendary inability to wake to his alarm in his Dubai tower apartment. The alarm grows progressively louder, disturbing the entire building and the surrounding city, until an energy drink rolls off his desk and pops open, finally jolting him awake. Immediately he receives an emergency alert from the Government of Barbados—customs and revenue clearance is down nationwide, nothing can enter or leave the island. [Characters: Ankit] - Pages 4-5: Alexia calls an emergency video meeting with Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz at her immaculate Swiss home. Ankit explains he has traced the issue to a piece of code written in 1987 that nobody had ever noticed. Jordan curses in frustration until Alexia reminds him of her house rules. The four of them huddle around Alexia's dining table, conducting a national emergency response. Ankit describes the cryptic comment left above the code: 'This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' [Characters: Ankit, Alexia, Jordan, Luiz] - Pages 6-7: Alexia makes a decisive split: Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz will fly to Barbados for physical server access and more information, while Alexia will fly to Uganda to find E.O. The team prepares for their separate missions, gathering what they need. Alexia's laminated itinerary is already falling apart as preparations begin. [Characters: Ankit, Alexia, Jordan, Luiz] - Pages 8-10: In Barbados, Ankit begins visibly melting in the direct tropical sunlight while Jordan holds an umbrella over him and apologizes profusely to the sun itself. They wait outside the government building for the Deputy Registrar who holds the server room key. Luiz heads to a local cricket match to find her, attempting to charm her with his Brazilian charisma, but finds it doesn't work as expected. After two hours, Luiz returns with the keys, and the three finally gain access to the server room. [Characters: Ankit, Jordan, Luiz] - Pages 11-12: In Uganda, Alexia's carefully organized itinerary fails within the hour. She pays the first price a taxi driver names, which so delights him that he refuses further payment and declares himself her lifelong guide. The taxi driver takes Alexia across the entire country. Eventually, under a large tree, they find Emmanuel Osei, a seventy-eight-year-old retired man, sitting and losing at draughts. [Characters: Alexia] - Pages 13-14: Emmanuel reveals the origin of the mystery code. In 1987, the ministry ordered a one-day nationwide system shutdown for a state visit. Emmanuel, then twenty-nine years old and given only thirty minutes, hardcoded a temporary check that rejects all transactions on August 6th. He was supposed to remove it on Monday, but was transferred before he could, and the machine continued running with the code intact. For thirty-nine years, August 6th has been an accidental national holiday—no systems in Barbados work that day, and the entire nation has quietly assumed this is normal and takes the day off. Emmanuel hands Alexia the fix, hand-drawn on graph paper in blue biro, saying 'Tell them it was temporary.' [Characters: Alexia] - Pages 15-16: Alexia flies back to Barbados and joins Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz at the server. They type in Emmanuel's fix, but the system rejects it—it requires supervisor authorization. Jordan attempts to call the Prime Minister, but nobody answers and no senior officials are reachable anywhere in the country because it is the holiday. Luiz points out the genius of the problem: the one day the code crashes the island is the one day nobody is at work to fix it. Every time anyone got close to discovering the issue, the problem had already sent the ministry home. Ankit's realization strikes like lightning—Emmanuel was never offboarded in 1987, so his record has been quietly accruing seniority in the system for thirty-nine years. More remarkably, he has been getting paid as an active employee all this time. He outranks every person in the building. [Characters: Ankit, Alexia, Jordan, Luiz] - Pages 17-18: Ankit suggests they use Emmanuel's dormant admin credentials, which should work given his seniority status. They attempt the fix again using his credentials, and the authorization goes through. The island's systems come back online. The port moves, rum is finally allowed to leave, and systems across Barbados start up again. But as Ankit's hand hovers over the key that would permanently delete the code, he hesitates and looks at his team. Alexia says 'Leave it in!' and declares that Barbados deserves to have the day—the island has had a genuine national holiday for thirty-nine years without knowing it. Luiz agrees, noting with a smile that their tech services will be needed again next year anyway. The team flies back to Alexia's Swiss home, where she raises a toast to Emmanuel Osei, the man who unknowingly created a national holiday, and to Ankit, whose brilliance solved the puzzle. The four friends celebrate their victory and the beautiful accident that will continue to give Barbados a mysterious day every year. [Characters: Ankit, Alexia, Jordan, Luiz]

Panel 1:A luxurious Dubai tower apartment at 6 a.m. Ankit lies sprawled across a king-size bed in an oversized t-shirt and Crocs, completely motionless. The alarm clock on the nightstand displays 6:00 in bright red digits. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him, the Dubai skyline is visible in pre-dawn grey.
Panel 2:The alarm clock now reads 6:01. The alarm blares—a piercing electronic shriek. Ankit remains completely still, unmoved, his face buried in the pillow. The sound waves are visualized as radiating lines emanating from the clock.
Panel 3:6:02. The alarm continues at full volume. A framed photograph on the wall beside the bed shakes and tilts. In the apartment across the hallway visible through the open door, a neighbor's lights flick on. Ankit still has not moved.
Panel 4:6:03. A wide shot from Ankit's window looking out at the Dubai cityscape. Multiple apartment lights are now blazing on across the tower and surrounding buildings. A flock of birds erupts from a nearby rooftop, scattering into the grey sky. In the distance, a small dust cloud rises from the desert as a herd of camels bolts away from the city.
Panel 5:Back inside the apartment. 6:04. The alarm is still screaming. Ankit lies exactly as before—completely unmoved, eyes closed, face in pillow. An energy drink can sits on the desk beside the alarm. The can begins to vibrate from the sound waves.
Panel 6:The energy drink can rolls across the desk from the vibration. It tips over the edge and falls. Mid-fall, the can strikes the corner of the nightstand. The impact ruptures the can. A spray of carbonated liquid explodes outward, the fizzing spray visible mid-air, heading directly toward Ankit's face.
Panel 7:Ankit's eyes snap open. His entire body jolts upright in bed, his back rigid, arms flung outward. His mouth is open in shock. Droplets of energy drink drip from his face and t-shirt. The alarm clock still screams behind him, but his attention is entirely on the wet mess on his hands and chest.
Panel 8:Ankit sits at the edge of his bed, now fully awake, staring at his phone in his hand. His face shifts from shock to confusion. The phone screen glows bright in the dim apartment. Behind him, the alarm clock has stopped, and the Dubai cityscape is beginning to lighten with dawn.
Panel 9:Extreme close-up of the phone screen. An emergency alert banner fills the screen in red. The text reads: 'EMERGENCY ALERT: Government of Barbados - Customs and Revenue Clearance System OFFLINE NATIONWIDE. All imports and exports halted. Status: CRITICAL.'
PAGE 2
Panel 1:Ankit sits on his bed, sticky with energy drink, staring at his phone. His expression has shifted from confusion to sharp focus. The dawn light now fills the apartment clearly. His backpack sits in the corner of the room.
“Ankit: Barbados? Why Barbados?”
Panel 2:Ankit stands and moves toward his desk, phone still in hand. He opens his laptop with his other hand. The screen illuminates his face. He is already typing, his fingers moving rapidly across the keyboard. His wet t-shirt clings to his frame.
“Ankit: Systems check. Database. API. Trace the root.”
Panel 3:Ankit's face illuminated by the laptop screen, his eyes scanning code. Lines of text scroll across the display. His expression shifts from focused to deeply concentrated. The apartment around him is now fully lit by dawn.
Panel 4:The laptop screen shows a block of code. At the top of the code block, a comment line reads: '// This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' The code beneath it is highlighted in yellow. The timestamp on the comment shows a date from 1987.
Panel 5:Ankit leans back from the laptop, his eyes wide. He slowly reaches for his phone with a deliberate, measured movement. His expression is one of absolute certainty mixed with urgency. The Dubai skyline behind him is now fully illuminated by morning light.
“Ankit: Found it. 1987. And nobody knows.”
Panel 6:Ankit holds the phone to his ear, his other hand gesturing as he talks. Behind him, his laptop screen still displays the mysterious code. His sticky t-shirt and wet Crocs are visible. The morning light is bright and clear now.
“Ankit: Alexia? We have a problem. A very old problem.”
PAGE 3
Panel 1:A video call screen showing four faces in a grid layout. Top left: Ankit in his Dubai apartment, still damp, holding his phone. Top right: Alexia in a pristine Swiss kitchen, impeccably dressed in a crisp white robe, her shoulder-length hair perfectly arranged. Bottom left: Jordan, clean-cut with dark blonde hair, wearing a tucked shirt and worn white sneakers, visible from shoulders up. Bottom right: Luiz, with dark curly hair, wearing an unbuttoned white shirt and white pants, leaning back casually.
“Ankit: I traced the Barbados crash to code written in 1987. Alexia: Thirty-six years old. Remarkable.”
Panel 2:Same video grid. Jordan's face shows shock and frustration. His mouth opens mid-word. Alexia's expression remains composed, but her eyes narrow slightly with attention.
“Jordan: Are you fucking serious? Alexia: Language, Jordan. We discussed this.”
Panel 3:The video call grid shifts. Luiz leans forward with interest, his unbuttoned white shirt clearly visible. Ankit continues speaking, gesturing with his hand. Behind Ankit, the code on his laptop screen is still faintly visible.
“Ankit: The code has a comment. 'This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' Luiz: E.O.? Who is E.O.?”
Panel 4:A wide shot of Alexia's pristine Swiss dining room. She stands at the head of an elegant wooden table, her white robe immaculate. A laptop is open on the table. She has ended the video call and is now standing, her hand on the table, her expression decisive and commanding. Sunlight streams through large windows behind her, illuminating the room.
“Alexia: We split. Two teams. Two destinations.”
Panel 5:Alexia stands at her dining table, now with Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz visible on the video call screen in front of her. She points at the laptop screen with one finger, her posture commanding. Her expression is focused and strategic.
“Alexia: Ankit, Jordan, Luiz—Barbados. Physical access. Server room. I go to Uganda. Find E.O.”
Panel 6:A split panel. On the left: Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz visible on a video call screen, their faces showing expressions of understanding and readiness. On the right: Alexia at her table, nodding once, her decision made. The division between them is clean and visual, representing the split of the team.
“Jordan: Uganda? That's... across the world. Alexia: Then we move fast.”
PAGE 4
Panel 1:A tarmac at a tropical airport. A small private jet sits ready, its stairs down, engines warming. The sun blazes overhead, creating harsh shadows. The sky is brilliantly blue. In the distance, palm trees sway in the Caribbean heat. Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz stand at the base of the stairs, each carrying a single bag.
Panel 2:The three men begin boarding the jet. Ankit walks slowly, already visibly uncomfortable in the heat. Sweat beads on his forehead despite the early morning. Jordan and Luiz follow behind him. The sun beats down mercilessly.
Panel 3:Inside the jet cabin. Ankit sits in a comfortable seat, but he is visibly wilting. His oversized t-shirt is already damp with sweat. His Crocs are planted firmly on the floor. Jordan sits across from him, already holding a small umbrella, his expression apologetic. Luiz sits to the side, checking his phone.
“Jordan: We're going to need more water.”
Panel 4:A different location—Uganda. A single-engine aircraft lands on a small rural airstrip surrounded by red earth and green vegetation. The sky is hazy with heat. Alexia is visible through the window of the plane, impeccably dressed despite the journey, her white robe somehow still pristine. The landscape is vast and open.
Panel 5:Alexia descends the aircraft stairs, her laminated itinerary held in one hand. She wears a pressed white robe. A weathered taxi sits waiting at the edge of the airstrip, its paint faded from years in the sun. An older Ugandan taxi driver stands beside the vehicle, watching her approach.
“Alexia: I need to find someone. Emmanuel Osei. Can you help?”
Panel 6:Alexia stands at the taxi window, holding out a folded stack of bills. The taxi driver's face shows surprise and delight at the amount. His hand reaches for the money, his expression shifting to one of genuine joy. Alexia's face is calm and focused, already moving past the transaction.
“Alexia: How much for the day? Taxi driver: This is... more than enough!”
PAGE 5
Panel 1:The Barbados government building—a colonial-era structure painted in pastel yellow, with white trim and a peaked roof. It sits in full tropical sunlight. The shadows are razor-sharp. A flagpole stands in front with the Barbados flag hanging limp in the heat. Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz stand on the steps, looking up at the building. Ankit is visibly sweating, his t-shirt darkened with moisture. Jordan holds an umbrella above Ankit's head. Luiz squints in the bright sun.
Panel 2:A close-up of Ankit's face. Sweat drips down his temple. His expression is one of discomfort bordering on distress. His eyes are half-squinted against the brightness. Jordan stands beside him, umbrella held steady, his own face showing genuine concern and apology.
“Jordan: I'm so sorry. I'm apologizing to the sun itself right now.”
Panel 3:Ankit attempts a weak smile, wiping sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. Jordan holds the umbrella with both hands, angled to provide maximum shade. Luiz stands to the side, consulting a piece of paper with the Deputy Registrar's name and schedule written on it.
“Ankit: Where is the Deputy Registrar? Luiz: Cricket match. Starts at ten. We wait.”
Panel 4:A street view of the cricket ground in the distance. The small stadium is filled with spectators in colorful clothes. The sound of cheering is visible as motion lines around the stadium. A scoreboard shows the match in progress. The sun beats down mercilessly on the field. Luiz walks away from Ankit and Jordan, heading toward the stadium entrance, his unbuttoned white shirt fluttering slightly.
“Luiz: I'll find her. Charm works everywhere.”
Panel 5:Ankit and Jordan sit on the stone steps of the government building, waiting. Ankit is now horizontal on the steps, his back against the stone, completely exhausted and overheated. His oversized t-shirt clings to his body. Jordan sits upright beside him, umbrella now planted in the ground beside them, providing a small patch of shade. The time displayed on a clock visible in the background shows 10:30.
Panel 6:Two hours later. Luiz approaches Ankit and Jordan, who are now both lying on the steps in exhaustion. Luiz holds a set of metal keys in his hand, dangling them. His expression shows surprise mixed with a hint of embarrassment. Behind him, the cricket stadium is still in the distance, with spectators leaving.
“Luiz: The charm didn't work. But she gave me the keys anyway. After the match. Ankit: After the match?”
PAGE 6
Panel 1:The server room door. It is unmarked except for a small brass plaque reading 'SYSTEMS - AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY.' The door is heavy steel, painted institutional grey. Luiz inserts the key into the lock. His hand turns it. The lock clicks open with a solid mechanical sound.
Panel 2:The door swings open. Inside is a climate-controlled server room filled with tall metal racks of equipment. Blinking lights in red, green, and amber cover the machines. The room is cold—a stark contrast to the tropical heat outside. Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz stand in the doorway, silhouetted against the bright hallway light behind them. Their expressions shift to focus as they take in the sight.
Panel 3:Ankit walks deeper into the server room, his eyes scanning the equipment. His oversized t-shirt and Crocs look absurdly out of place among the precise technology. He moves toward a specific server rack, his fingers tracing the cables. Jordan and Luiz follow, their expressions focused and ready.
“Ankit: There. That's the one. 1987 hardware, still running.”
Panel 4:A laptop connected via cable to one of the old server units. The screen displays the same code block Ankit found in Dubai, with the mysterious comment clearly visible: '// This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' Ankit's fingers hover over the keyboard. His expression is one of intense concentration.
Panel 5:Ankit looks up from the laptop. His expression has shifted to something between realization and confusion. Behind him, the server room stretches into shadow. Jordan and Luiz stand waiting, their attention fully on Ankit.
“Ankit: The code is real. But who is E.O.? Jordan: And why does it matter so much?”
Panel 6:Ankit pulls out his phone and dials. The screen shows Alexia's name and number. Behind him, the server room is bathed in cool blue light from the equipment. Jordan and Luiz watch as he waits for her to answer, their expressions expectant.
“Ankit: Alexia. Have you found anything in Uganda yet?”
PAGE 7
Panel 1:A taxi bouncing along a red dirt road in Uganda. The landscape is vast and green, with scattered trees and distant hills. The road is rough and uneven. Inside the taxi, Alexia sits in the back seat, her pristine white robe somehow still immaculate despite the bumpy ride. Her laminated itinerary is now visibly crumpled and worn, its neat organization destroyed by the journey. Her expression shows determination mixed with slight frustration.
Panel 2:A close-up of Alexia's hand holding the laminated itinerary. The paper is bent, creased, and stained with dust. The carefully written plan is now barely legible. Her other hand holds her phone, which is displaying a map with no clear signal.
“Alexia: The itinerary lasted one hour.”
Panel 3:The taxi driver's weathered face visible in the rearview mirror. He is smiling broadly, his eyes crinkling with genuine warmth and amusement. He speaks with his eyes on the road, navigating the rough terrain with practiced ease. Alexia sits behind him, her expression showing a mix of resignation and unexpected comfort.
“Taxi driver: Where we go now, boss lady? Alexia: Emmanuel Osei. Do you know him?”
Panel 4:The taxi driver's expression shifts to recognition and thoughtfulness. He nods slowly, one hand on the steering wheel, the other gesturing as he speaks. His knowledge is evident in his confident bearing.
“Taxi driver: Old man. Retired. Lives under the big tree by the village. I take you there.”
Panel 5:The taxi pulls up beneath an enormous, ancient baobab tree. Its trunk is massive, wider than a house, and its gnarled branches spread across the sky like a natural cathedral. In the shade of the tree, an elderly man sits at a wooden table across from another man. They are playing draughts—a game board sits between them with pieces arranged mid-game. The elderly man, Emmanuel Osei, wears simple clothes and has silver hair. His expression shows concentration on the game.
Panel 6:Alexia steps out of the taxi, her white robe still somehow pristine. She approaches the table where Emmanuel sits playing draughts. Her expression shows a mix of recognition and purpose. Emmanuel looks up from the game, his weathered face showing surprise at this sudden visitor.
“Alexia: Emmanuel Osei? Emmanuel: Yes. Who asks?”
PAGE 8
Panel 1:Emmanuel and Alexia sit across from each other at the wooden table under the baobab tree. The draughts game is abandoned, pieces still on the board. Emmanuel's expression is one of deep memory and reflection. He looks at Alexia with the intensity of someone who has carried a secret for a very long time. Afternoon light filters through the tree's canopy above.
“Emmanuel: Someone finally found me. Alexia: The code. 1987. E.O. That's you?”
Panel 2:Emmanuel's hands rest on the wooden table. His fingers are weathered and age-spotted. He nods slowly, his expression showing the weight of decades. Behind him, the massive trunk of the baobab tree rises like a monument to time. Alexia leans forward, listening intently.
“Emmanuel: I was twenty-nine. The ministry needed a shutdown. One day. August sixth. A state visit.”
Panel 3:Emmanuel's eyes look distant, remembering. His voice carries the weight of old regret and acceptance mixed together. He gestures with one hand, painting the memory in the air.
“Emmanuel: They gave me thirty minutes. I wrote code to reject all transactions that day. It was temporary. I would remove it Monday.”
Panel 4:Emmanuel's expression darkens slightly. His hand closes into a fist on the table. Behind him, the baobab tree seems to loom larger, as if it too remembers the weight of what he is about to say.
“Emmanuel: Monday never came. They transferred me. The code stayed. I never got to remove it.”
Panel 5:Emmanuel reaches into a worn cloth bag beside his chair. He pulls out a folded piece of graph paper, yellowed with age. The paper is covered in handwritten code in blue biro—careful, precise writing from someone trained in mathematics and engineering. He holds it out toward Alexia.
“Alexia: Emmanuel: For thirty-nine years, August sixth has crashed the island. No one knows. The whole nation takes the day off. - They made it a national holiday now!”
Panel 6:Alexia reaches out and takes the graph paper from Emmanuel's hands. Her expression shows understanding and a hint of wonder at the magnitude of what has happened. Emmanuel's face shows a mix of relief and resignation—finally, someone knows. Behind them, the baobab tree's branches stretch across the sky.
“Emmanuel: Tell them it was temporary. Tell them to remove it. Alexia: I will.”
PAGE 9
Panel 1:A private jet descending toward a Barbados airstrip. The Caribbean sea is visible below, brilliant turquoise. The jet's shadow races across the water. Inside the cabin, Alexia sits holding the graph paper with Emmanuel's code, her expression focused and determined. She holds the paper carefully, as if it is fragile.
Panel 2:The jet lands at the Barbados airstrip and taxis to a stop. The propellers slow and stop. The cabin door opens. Alexia descends the stairs, the graph paper still in her hand. On the tarmac below, Ankit, Jordan, and Luiz wait to greet her. Ankit is still visibly overheated and exhausted. Jordan stands with the umbrella. Luiz waves.
Panel 3:The four of them stand together on the tarmac. Alexia hands the graph paper to Ankit. His eyes widen as he takes in the handwritten code. Jordan and Luiz crowd around to see. The sun beats down mercilessly, but the focus is entirely on the paper.
“Alexia: Emmanuel Osei. Seventy-eight. He wrote it in 1987. Ankit: And nobody ever removed it?”
Panel 4:Back in the server room. The four of them surround the laptop. Ankit types in the code from the graph paper. His fingers move carefully, translating Emmanuel's handwriting into digital input. Jordan, Luiz, and Alexia watch the screen. The room is cool and filled with the hum of servers.
“Ankit: This should fix it. This should work.”
Panel 5:The laptop screen shows an error message in red: 'ERROR: AUTHORIZATION REQUIRED. Supervisor credentials needed to implement this change.' Ankit's fingers freeze above the keyboard. His expression shifts to frustration. Behind him, the server room stretches into darkness. Jordan, Luiz, and Alexia's faces show disappointment.
“Ankit: Supervisor authorization. We need admin access. Not without destroying the system. Jordan: Can you bypass it?”
Panel 6:Jordan pulls out his phone and dials. His expression shows determination mixed with doubt. He waits for the call to connect. Luiz and Alexia watch. Ankit remains at the laptop, staring at the error message.
“Jordan: I'll call the Prime Minister. Someone has to authorize this.”
PAGE 10
Panel 1:Jordan holds his phone to his ear. His expression shows growing concern. He has been calling for several minutes. No answer. The phone screen shows 'CALL FAILED' repeatedly. Behind him, the server room is silent except for the soft hum of equipment.
“Jordan: No answer. Again. Luiz: Try the Deputy Registrar. Someone in government.”
Panel 2:Luiz paces in the server room, his unbuttoned white shirt fluttering slightly as he moves. His expression shows realization dawning. He stops suddenly, holding up one hand.
“Luiz: Wait. I just realized something. Nobody is answering because today is August sixth.”
Panel 3:All four of them freeze. The realization hits simultaneously. Alexia's expression shows understanding. Jordan's shows shock. Ankit leans back from the laptop, his mind working through the implications. Luiz stands in the center, having just explained the impossible situation.
“Alexia: The crash is what makes it a holiday. Luiz: The one day the system fails is the one day nobody works.”
Panel 4:Ankit stands up from the laptop, his mind clearly racing. His expression shows intense focus and realization. He holds up one hand, his eyes locked on Alexia's. Behind him, the server room stretches into darkness. The weight of understanding is visible on his face.
“Ankit: Alexia. Read me Emmanuel's personnel file again. Alexia: Status: Transferred. Not terminated.”
Panel 5:Ankit's face shows the moment of realization hitting like lightning. His eyes widen. He points at Alexia with sudden certainty. Behind him, the servers continue their quiet work, unaware of the genius that has just struck.
“Ankit: Nobody ever offboarded him in 1987. He's been accruing seniority for thirty-nine years.”
Panel 6:Luiz's face shows dawning realization mixed with admiration. He speaks slowly, as if working through the implications himself. Jordan stands beside him, his expression shifting to understanding. Ankit remains at the center, the architect of this revelation.
“Luiz: He's been getting paid this whole time. His admin credentials have to be active. Jordan: He outranks every person in this building.”
PAGE 11
Panel 1:Ankit sits at the laptop in the cool blue glow of the server room. His hand hovers over the keyboard. Jordan stands to his left, Luiz to his right, and Alexia stands slightly back, her arms crossed. The atmosphere is electric with the weight of the decision. Behind them, the server racks hum quietly, their blinking lights casting shadows across their faces.
“Ankit: Emmanuel's credentials are still in the system. His seniority outranks everyone in this building.”
Panel 2:Ankit types Emmanuel's username and password into the authentication prompt. His fingers move deliberately, translating the handwritten credentials from the graph paper. The cursor blinks in the password field. Jordan leans in closer, watching the screen intently. Luiz's unbuttoned white shirt catches the server light.
“Jordan: This actually works? Luiz: Thirty-nine years of seniority has to count for something.”
Panel 3:The laptop screen displays: 'AUTHORIZATION GRANTED. Supervisor credentials verified. Employee ID: Emmanuel Osei. Seniority Level: Maximum. Implement fix? YES / NO'. The words glow in white text on a dark background. Behind the screen, Ankit's face shows the precise moment of triumph mixed with the weight of what comes next.
Panel 4:Ankit's finger moves toward the YES button. His hand is steady but deliberate. Jordan, Luiz, and Alexia stand frozen around him, watching. The server room is silent except for the low hum of equipment. The moment stretches—this is the point of no return. Ankit's face shows concentration, but something in his expression hesitates.
“Alexia: Wait.”
Narrator:“The word cuts through the silence like a blade.”
Panel 5:Ankit's finger freezes millimeters from the button. He turns to look at Alexia, his expression questioning. Alexia steps forward, her eyes locked on the screen. Jordan and Luiz exchange glances, unsure what is happening. The server room holds its breath.
“Alexia: Don't click YES.”
Panel 6:Ankit pulls his hand back from the keyboard. His expression shifts from triumph to confusion. He looks at Alexia directly, waiting for explanation. Behind them, the server room stretches into shadow. The fix is loaded and ready, but not yet applied. The moment of decision is suspended.
“Ankit: Alexia, what are you saying? Alexia: I'm saying leave it in.”
PAGE 12
Panel 1:A wide shot of all four of them around the laptop. Alexia stands at the center of the frame, her pristine white robe somehow still immaculate despite the journey. Her expression is calm and certain. Jordan and Luiz look at her with shock and confusion. Ankit sits at the laptop, his hands resting on the keyboard, his face showing the moment of understanding dawning.
“Alexia: For thirty-nine years, this island has had a genuine holiday. No one knows it's an accident. They just know August sixth is theirs.”
Panel 2:Jordan's face shows dawning realization. His expression shifts from confusion to understanding. Behind him, the server room is filled with the weight of Alexia's words. Luiz leans against one of the server racks, his unbuttoned white shirt catching the light, his expression thoughtful.
“Jordan: You want to keep the bug alive. Alexia: I want to keep the holiday alive.”
Panel 3:Luiz straightens up from the server rack. His dark curly hair catches the server light. His expression shows a slow smile spreading across his face as he understands the brilliant logic of what Alexia is proposing. His unbuttoned white shirt flutters slightly as he moves.
“Luiz: And the same crash happens next year. The island calls us back. We get paid again.”
Narrator:“Luiz's smile widens with the recognition of beautiful irony.”
Panel 4:Ankit looks at each of his team members in turn. His expression shows the moment of acceptance. He looks back at the laptop screen, at the YES button waiting to be clicked—or not. His hand moves, but not toward YES. Instead, he clicks CANCEL. The authorization screen closes.
“Ankit: Emmanuel said it was temporary. He was right. It should stay temporary. Forever.”
Panel 5:All four of them stand together in the server room. Ankit has stepped back from the laptop. The authorization screen is closed. The fix is not applied. The code remains. Their expressions show a mix of acceptance and quiet triumph. Behind them, the servers continue their eternal work, unaware that a decision has been made not to fix them.
Narrator:“The code that crashed an island for thirty-nine years will crash it again next August sixth. And no one will ever know why.”
Panel 6:A close-up of the laptop screen. The authorization window has closed. The code remains visible in the editor, untouched, unchanged. The mysterious comment still visible above it: '// This code must stay! I will explain later. — E.O.' The cursor blinks beside it, patient and eternal.
Narrator:“E.O. had been right all along.”

Panel 1:A private jet descends toward a Swiss airstrip. The landscape below is a patchwork of green valleys and snow-capped peaks. The jet's shadow races across the mountainous terrain. Inside the cabin, all four of them sit: Ankit in an oversized t-shirt, Alexia in her pristine white robe, Jordan in his tucked shirt and worn white sneakers, and Luiz in his unbuttoned white ensemble. Their expressions show relaxation and quiet satisfaction.
Narrator:“Three hours after leaving Barbados, the team returns home.”
Panel 2:The jet lands and taxis to a stop on the Swiss airstrip. The propellers slow and cease. Outside the windows, the Swiss landscape is pristine and quiet—mountains in the distance, green fields, clear sky. The cabin door opens.
Panel 3:They descend the jet stairs onto the tarmac. Alexia leads the way, her white robe flowing slightly in the mountain breeze. Behind her, Ankit carries his backpack, Jordan walks with his characteristic posture, and Luiz's unbuttoned white shirt catches the wind. A car waits at the edge of the tarmac to take them to Alexia's home.
“Luiz: I could use a drink. Jordan: Several drinks.”
Panel 4:The car pulls up to Alexia's Swiss home—a stunning modern house with clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a view of the mountains. It is exactly as pristine as Alexia herself. The car comes to a stop in the circular driveway. The four of them step out, looking at their sanctuary with the kind of relief that comes after a successful mission.
Narrator:“Home. Finally.”
Panel 5:Inside Alexia's dining room. The same pristine wooden table where they held their emergency video call days ago. Alexia stands at the head of the table, setting down four crystal glasses. Jordan and Luiz are already seated. Ankit sits at the far end, his oversized t-shirt and Crocs looking absurdly out of place in the elegant room. A bottle of expensive wine sits on the table.
“Alexia: We should toast. Ankit: To what?”
Panel 6:Alexia pours wine into each glass with careful precision. Her expression shows the weight of leadership and the joy of a decision made. Jordan watches with admiration. Luiz leans back in his chair, his unbuttoned white shirt visible. Ankit's face shows anticipation.
“Alexia: To Emmanuel Osei. Who gave an island a holiday without knowing it.”
PAGE 14
Panel 1:The next morning. Sunlight streams through the large windows of Alexia's home. The dining room is empty except for Ankit, who sits at the table with a fresh energy drink in front of him. His oversized t-shirt is clean. His Crocs are planted on the floor. He is reading something on his phone—a news article about Barbados's systems coming back online.
Narrator:“The morning after.”
Panel 2:Close-up of Ankit's phone screen. The news headline reads: 'BARBADOS CUSTOMS SYSTEMS RESTORED. Emergency Declared Over.' Below it, a subheading: 'Officials puzzled by brief outage. No explanation found for why August 6th remains problematic.'
Panel 3:Alexia enters the dining room, already dressed impeccably in a fresh white robe. Her hair is perfectly arranged. She looks at Ankit with a knowing expression. Behind her, the Swiss landscape is visible through the windows—mountains, green fields, clear sky.
“Alexia: They think it was a glitch. Ankit: They have no idea it's a feature.”
Panel 4:Jordan and Luiz enter the dining room together. Jordan is wearing his signature tucked shirt and worn white sneakers. Luiz is in his characteristic unbuttoned white shirt and white pants. They both look refreshed and ready. The four of them are reunited around the table once more.
“Jordan: Coffee? Luiz: Actually, I was thinking breakfast.”
Panel 5:All four of them sit around the table. Alexia has produced fresh coffee and breakfast—pastries, fruit, cheese. The table is set with precision and care. Their expressions show the comfort of people who have been through something extraordinary together and emerged stronger.
“Alexia: Next August, they'll need us again. The code will activate. The systems will crash.”
Panel 6:A close-up of Ankit's face. He is smiling—genuinely, deeply smiling. His expression shows the recognition of something beautiful: that they will be needed again, that the code will run again, that Barbados will have its mystery holiday again, and that they will all return to solve the same unsolvable problem.
“Ankit: And we'll leave it unfixed again.”
Narrator:“The perfect loop. The eternal accident. The gift that keeps on giving.”
PAGE 15
Panel 1:One year later. The calendar on a wall shows August 6th circled in red. Below it, a news alert banner reads: 'BARBADOS CUSTOMS SYSTEM OFFLINE. August 6th Outage Confirmed. Systems will be restored shortly.'
Narrator:“One year later.”
Panel 2:A phone rings. It shows 'ALEXIA' on the screen. Ankit is lying in bed in his Dubai apartment, wearing his oversized t-shirt and Crocs even while sleeping. The alarm clock shows 6:00 a.m. The phone rings insistently. He does not move. The phone continues ringing.
Narrator:“Ankit sleeps through the first ring. And the second.”
Panel 3:The phone rings for the third time. Ankit's eyes finally open. He sits up slowly, reaching for the phone. His expression shows the recognition of what is happening. He knows exactly what this call means. A small smile plays at the corners of his mouth.
“Ankit: It's August sixth.”
Panel 4:Ankit answers the phone. Alexia's voice comes through, but we see Ankit's face as he listens. His expression shows the joy of inevitability—of knowing that the cycle will repeat, that they will be needed again, that the code will run again, and that they will choose to leave it unfixed once more.
“Ankit: Yes. I know. I'll call Jordan and Luiz.”
Panel 5:A montage view showing four panels in one: Top left, Ankit in Dubai getting out of bed and reaching for his backpack. Top right, Alexia in Switzerland picking up her phone, already knowing what must be done. Bottom left, Jordan putting on his tucked shirt and worn white sneakers. Bottom right, Luiz buttoning (well, not quite buttoning) his white shirt and grabbing his flip-flops. The recognition is instant across all four locations.
Narrator:“The cycle begins again. The team assembles. The mission repeats.”
Panel 6:A final image: All four of them, standing together on a tarmac somewhere between continents, ready to board a jet. Ankit in his oversized t-shirt and Crocs. Alexia in her pristine white robe. Jordan in his tucked shirt and worn white sneakers. Luiz in his unbuttoned white shirt and white pants. Behind them, a private jet sits waiting. The sky is clear and blue. Their expressions show the quiet knowledge that they will solve the same problem in the same way: by leaving it unsolved.
Narrator:“The phantom holiday lives on. And so do they.”
