MISSED CONNECTION

Missed Connection

Two strangers on a subway discover they are reading the same book, share a moment of unspoken connection, and one leaves behind a clue for the other to find them again.

Ava, a young artist struggling with a creative block, and Leo, a software developer feeling burnt out, find themselves on the same crowded subway train, both engrossed in a worn copy of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude.' Their eyes meet across the aisle, a shared understanding passing between them as they recognize the book. A brief, comfortable silence hangs in the air, filled with unspoken connection. When Ava has to disembark, a sudden stop jostles her, causing her sketchbook to fall open. Leo picks it up to return it, noticing a beautifully rendered sketch of a hummingbird, a symbol from the book. Ava quickly grabs the sketchbook, flustered, and exits the train. Later, Leo discovers a small, folded piece of paper tucked inside the sketchbook. It's a single origami hummingbird, with a QR code subtly printed on its wing. Intrigued, he scans the code, leading him to a website – a local art collective's page, showcasing Ava's work and contact information. The issue ends with Leo contemplating whether to reach out, a mix of hope and hesitation on his face.
