Panel 1:Close-up on Priya Patel's face as she stares at her laptop screen, her oversized glasses reflecting lines of code. Her expression is completely neutral, but her eyes are moving rapidly across the screen, processing information. The blue glow of the monitor illuminates her features.

Panel 2:Deshawn Carter stands at the workbench, holding Ampere arm in both hands. He's rotated it to examine the joints from multiple angles. His expression shifts from theatrical to genuinely thoughtful. Duct tape rolls are visible nearby. Behind him, sketches and blueprints cover the surface.

Deshawn Carter: What if we pivot the servo here instead?

Panel 3:Maya "Mo" Chen leans in closer to examine Deshawn Carter's proposed modification. Her ponytail is now completely loose, falling over one shoulder. Her eyes are narrowed in concentration as she studies the joint. Her expression shows both skepticism and curiosity.

Maya "Mo" Chen: Show me the stress calculations first.

Panel 4:Trent Voss pushes through the workshop door, wearing his old team jacket turned inside-out as a joke. His slicked hair and confident posture are immediately apparent. He grins as he surveys the scene—the scattered tools, the focused team, Ampere in the center.

Trent Voss: Yo, what'd I miss?

Panel 5:Jake Bennett sits on a stool in the corner of the workshop, holding a root beer can that never leaves his hand. His oversized glasses catch the light as he observes the team working. His face is completely expressionless, but his eyes track every movement—from Deshawn's arm rotation to Maya "Mo" Chen's scrutiny to Priya's fingers flying across the keyboard.

Narrator:They're scared. Not of failing. Of discovering they were wrong all along.

Panel 6:Priya Patel stands up from her laptop, walking toward the group gathered around Ampere . Her oversized glasses are still in place, her expression still deadpan, but there's a subtle energy in her posture. She holds a printed sheet of code in one hand.

Priya Patel: New autonomous routine's ready. It's different.

Panel 7:All five team members now surround Ampere . Maya "Mo" Chen stands on one side, Deshawn Carter on another, Priya Patel approaching with her code printout, Trent Voss with his hands on his hips, and Jake Bennett still on the stool in the background, observing. The robot sits in the center of their circle, waiting. The scattered tools and blueprints create a sense of organized chaos. The afternoon light casts their shadows across the workbench.

Maya "Mo" Chen: We test it tonight?

PAGE 3

Panel 1:The Incredibots workshop on a bright afternoon. Sunlight streams through tall industrial windows, casting long shadows across a cluttered workbench. Ampere sits in the center of the space, its boxy aluminum chassis and mismatched wheels catching the light. Maya "Mo" Chen stands beside the robot, her ponytail coming loose, studying the arm mechanism. Her hoodie is covered in event pins that glint in the sun. Around her, scattered tools, duct tape rolls, and technical drawings cover the bench.

Panel 2:Deshawn Carter enters the frame from the left, duct tape roll visible in his back pocket. He approaches Ampere with exaggerated caution, one hand raised as if approaching a wounded animal. His expression is theatrical, mouth slightly open in mock concern. Maya "Mo" Chen glances up at him, one eyebrow raised.

Deshawn Carter: Whoa, whoa. What happened to our girl?

Panel 3:Maya "Mo" Chen turns to face Deshawn Carter fully, her hands gesturing at Ampere arm. Her expression is determined but tinged with frustration. Behind her, the robot's arm hangs slightly askew, the duct-tape patches visible.

Maya "Mo" Chen: The arm's not precise enough. We need to redesign it.

Panel 4:Priya Patel sits at a workstation laptop in the background, her oversized glasses reflecting the screen's glow. Her expression is deadpan, but her fingers move rapidly across the keyboard. Code scrolls on the monitor behind her. In the foreground, slightly out of focus, Deshawn Carter scratches his head, processing Maya "Mo" Chen's words.

Deshawn Carter: Redesign? That's... actually not terrible.

Panel 5:Coach Ruiz enters the workshop through a doorway at the back, carrying a worn challenge coin on her lanyard. She moves toward the group with a warm but observant expression. Her eyes scan the robot and the scattered design sketches on the bench. She's dressed in casual coaching attire with the lanyard clearly visible.

Panel 6:Close-up on Coach Ruiz's hand as she pulls the worn challenge coin from her lanyard pouch. The coin's engraved text "Gracious Professionalism" catches the light. Her face is visible in profile, a knowing smile at the corner of her mouth.

Coach Ruiz: New ideas. That's what I like to see.

Narrator:Discovery isn't about being right. It's about being brave enough to be wrong.

Panel 7:Wide shot of the entire workshop. Maya "Mo" Chen, Deshawn Carter, and Priya Patel gather around Ampere Coach Ruiz stands to the side, the challenge coin still visible in her hand. All four team members are focused on the robot. Technical drawings and sketches are scattered across the workbench. The atmosphere is one of collective purpose and possibility.

PAGE 4

Panel 1:The workshop at dusk. The industrial windows now show purple and orange sky. Ampere sits on the testing floor, marked with white tape lines. Purple and green artifact balls are scattered around the field zone, ready to be picked up and scored. The team has formed a line along the wall, watching. Priya Patel stands near a laptop positioned to the side, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. The robot's lightning bolt logo is clearly visible.

Narrator:This is the moment. When theory becomes reality.

Panel 2:Ampere springs to life, wheels spinning, moving smoothly across the testing floor. Its intake rollers grab a purple artifact ball and feed it into the hopper. The dual-flywheel shooter turret rotates upward, angled at 45 degrees, firing the ball in a clean arc toward the simulated goal structure.

Panel 3:Close-up on the dual-flywheel shooter turret as it spins up and launches another purple ball. The flywheels hum smoothly with precision control. A green artifact ball sits in the hopper, ready for the next shot. No stuttering. No hesitation. The balls launch with consistent speed and accuracy.

Panel 4:Priya Patel's face, still expressionless behind her oversized glasses, as she watches the test. Her fingers remain poised over the keyboard. In the background, slightly blurred, the team watches Ampere shoot with perfect timing. The laptop screen behind her shows the autonomous routine executing without errors.

Priya Patel: Zero errors. It's working.

Panel 5:Maya "Mo" Chen's face lights up. Her eyes widen slightly as she watches another ball arc perfectly into the goal zone. Her ponytail, now completely loose, frames her face as genuine relief and pride wash over her. Behind her, Deshawn Carter's mouth is open in a silent exclamation, and Trent Voss is grinning wide.

Maya "Mo" Chen: It's actually working.

Panel 6:Ampere completes its autonomous routine, rolling to a stop on the testing floor after launching the final ball. The robot sits perfectly still, its lightning bolt logo gleaming under the workshop lights. Purple and green balls sit in the goal zone, scored. The team stands in a semi-circle around it, their faces showing a mix of accomplishment and wonder. Coach Ruiz stands at the back of the group, her worn challenge coin visible in her lanyard, a satisfied smile on her face. Jake Bennett remains on his stool, his expression unchanged, but his root beer can is now resting on his lap—both hands visible and still.

Narrator:Discovery isn't the end. It's the beginning.

Panel 7:Final panel: Deshawn Carter pulls a fresh roll of duct tape from his back pocket and waves it in the air, his expression triumphant and comedic. Behind him, the team laughs—even Priya Patel's expression has shifted to something almost like amusement. Ampere sits in the background, ready for the next challenge, with scattered purple and green balls around it. The workshop is filled with warm golden light from the dusk outside and the overhead lights. Technical drawings and scattered tools create a backdrop of creative energy.

Deshawn Carter: This robot's only gonna get better.

PAGE 5

Panel 1:Early morning. The Incredibots team van pulls into a school parking lot already crowded with other teams' trailers and banners. Through the windshield, Maya "Mo" Chen stares out at the competition venue — a large gymnasium with a banner reading 'REGIONAL QUALIFIER.' Her hands grip a plastic bin containing Ampere , wrapped carefully in a moving blanket.

Narrator:Six weeks of redesigns. One morning to prove it.

Panel 2:Deshawn Carter hops out of the van first, immediately fumbling with a rolling toolbox that's overloaded with duct tape rolls, spare servos, and zip ties. Trent Voss follows, carrying Ampere bin like it's made of glass, exaggeratedly careful. Priya Patel walks behind them, laptop bag slung over one shoulder, eyes already scanning a printed match schedule.

Panel 3:Inside the gymnasium pit area, rows of tables are crowded with teams and robots of every shape. The Incredibots claim a table near the end of a row. Jake Bennett sets his root beer can down with the exact same care as always, then unwraps Ampere from its blanket. The lightning bolt logo catches the fluorescent light.

Panel 4:Coach Ruiz appears at the edge of the pit table, clipboard in hand, scanning a printed match bracket. She looks up at the team with a steady, encouraging expression. Behind her, other teams' robots whir and beep as they're tested. Maya "Mo" Chen looks nervous but determined, her hoodie pins glinting under the gym lights.

Coach Ruiz: First match is in twenty minutes. You ready? Maya "Mo" Chen: We have to be.

PAGE 6

Panel 1:The competition field, a rectangular arena marked with colored tape zones and scattered game elements — cubes and rings arranged around scoring stations. Bright overhead lights illuminate the field. Ampere sits at the starting position, its arm folded neatly, duct-tape patches gleaming faintly under the lights. In the stands, a crowd of parents and students watches.

Narrator:Under competition lights, everything looks different. Sharper. Louder. Realer.

Panel 2:Behind the driver station glass, Maya "Mo" Chen and Trent Voss stand with controllers in hand, knuckles tight. Priya Patel stands off to the side with her laptop open, monitoring the autonomous routine one last time. Deshawn Carter paces just behind them, chewing on a strip of duct tape out of nervous habit.

Trent Voss: Autonomous is locked in, right? Priya Patel: Locked. Tested forty times. It's fine.

Panel 3:A referee's hand hovers over a large red buzzer button. Close on the digital scoreboard clock, frozen at 0:30 for the autonomous period. The tension is palpable in the framing — everything holds its breath.

PAGE 7

Panel 1:The buzzer sounds. Ampere springs to life, wheels spinning, autonomous routine kicking in exactly as programmed. The intake rollers grab a purple artifact ball and feed it smoothly into the hopper.

Panel 2:Ampere dual-flywheel shooter turret rises and angles toward the goal. The turret begins to spin up, but midway through the firing sequence, a small puff of smoke curls from the shoulder joint—the exact joint Deshawn modified. The arm jerks, stutters. The flywheels whine unevenly.

Panel 3:Wide shot: Ampere freezes in place, shooter turret half-raised, ball still locked in the hopper. The ominous squeak Ampere is known for echoes through the gym, louder than ever. In the stands, murmurs ripple through the crowd.

Narrator:There it is. The squeak. Right on cue.

Panel 4:Behind the glass, Maya "Mo" Chen's face drains of color, her hands frozen on the controller. Deshawn Carter's mouth falls open in genuine (not theatrical) horror this time. Trent Voss mutters under his breath, glancing at the countdown clock ticking down.

Deshawn Carter: No no no—not now—

Panel 5:Priya Patel's fingers fly across her laptop keyboard, her deadpan expression cracking just slightly—a flicker of real panic behind the calm. Code scrolls rapidly on her screen as she searches for an override command.

Priya Patel: Give me five seconds. I can force a manual override.

Panel 6:Jake Bennett, still holding his root beer can in the stands area behind the glass, watches without expression. His eyes, however, flick rapidly between the scoreboard clock and Priya's screen—the only sign of the six things he's silently panicking about.

Narrator:Discovery doesn't wait for a good time to happen.

PAGE 8

Panel 1:Close on the scoreboard clock: 0:12 remaining. Priya Patel's finger hovers over the Enter key, ready to push the override command she wrote on the fly. Sweat beads at her temple despite her calm exterior.

Narrator:Every discovery starts the same way: not knowing if it'll work.

Panel 2:Maya "Mo" Chen grips her controller tighter, eyes locked on Ampere frozen arm across the field. Trent Voss puts a steadying hand on her shoulder, nodding once. Deshawn Carter has stopped pacing, staring at the field with white-knuckled hope.

Maya "Mo" Chen: Come on, Ampere. Come on. Trent Voss: This wasn't in any of our tests. She's making it up right now.

Panel 3:Priya Patel hits Enter. Across the field, Ampere arm shudders once, then releases the stuck joint with a mechanical clunk. The arm swings free, dropping the cube neatly into the scoring zone below.

Priya Patel: There. Go, go, go.

Panel 4:Wide shot of the field as the buzzer sounds, ending the match. Ampere sits with the cube scored, arm now hanging slightly loose but functional. The scoreboard flashes the Incredibots' score — not perfect, but enough. The crowd in the stands applauds, some team members from other tables craning to see.

Narrator:They didn't find the fix in a manual. They found it by trying something no one had tried before.

Panel 5:Behind the glass, the team erupts — Deshawn Carter pumps both fists in the air, Trent Voss lets out a whoop, Maya "Mo" Chen exhales like she's been holding her breath for the entire match, a relieved smile breaking through. Priya Patel closes her laptop calmly, though the corner of her mouth twitches upward with quiet pride.

Deshawn Carter: You just wrote that code out of nowhere and it WORKED. Priya Patel: That's the job. Figure out what nobody's figured out yet.

PAGE 9

Panel 1:Full-page splash. The team gathers around Ampere back at their pit table after the match, the arm now propped up and being inspected by Deshawn Carter, who has already pulled out fresh duct tape and a spare servo. Maya "Mo" Chen holds a small notebook, sketching a fix for the shoulder joint. Priya Patel sits nearby, laptop open, already annotating the override code for a permanent patch. Trent Voss leans against the table, arms crossed, grinning with pride. Jake Bennett sits on an overturned equipment case, root beer can in hand, watching the group with his usual unreadable calm. Coach Ruiz stands just behind them all, challenge coin held loosely between two fingers, a quiet, knowing smile on her face as she watches her team turn a near-disaster into a lesson learned. The gymnasium lights blaze warmly overhead, and in the background, other teams' pits blur into a colorful, chaotic backdrop of the competition day.

Coach Ruiz: That right there. Exploring an idea nobody was sure would work. That's the whole point. Maya "Mo" Chen: We didn't just fix the joint. We found a whole new way to think about it. Next time, the joint holds. I promise. Deshawn Carter: And next time, I'M bringing MORE tape. For science. Priya Patel: The override stays in the code now. Discovery's not a one-time thing.

Narrator:They didn't win because nothing went wrong. They won because, when it did, they explored every idea they had — until they discovered the right one. That's the real discovery.
