A detective investigates a magician who disappeared during a live performance, only to discover the trick was covering up something far more sinister.
Detective Harding investigates the disappearance of renowned magician, The Great Alberto, during his grand finale. The initial illusion quickly unravels, hinting at something darker than a simple trick gone wrong.

Panel 1:A packed theater, the stage bathed in dramatic light. The Great Alberto, in a shimmering tuxedo, bows to thunderous applause. A large ornate box sits center stage.
“The Great Alberto: Thank you, thank you! For my final act, I shall make myself… disappear!”
Panel 2:Close-up on The Great Alberto as he winks at the audience. He steps into the box, the door closing behind him.
“The Great Alberto: Prepare to be amazed!”
Panel 3:The stagehands open the box with a flourish… it's empty. The audience gasps.
“Stagehand: Ta-da!”
Panel 4:Wide shot of the theater. The audience is panicking. A single woman screams.
“Woman: He's gone! He's really gone!”

Panel 1:A dimly lit office. Detective Harding sits at his desk, a half-empty glass of whiskey beside him. He's looking at a newspaper with the headline: 'Magician Vanishes!'
“Detective Harding: (Grumbling to himself) Another day, another disappearing act… usually involving alimony.”
Panel 2:A uniformed officer, Officer Krill, stands in the doorway.
“Officer Krill: Detective Harding, the Captain wants you down at the Majestic. The magician thing.”
Panel 3:Detective Harding stands up, putting on his trench coat.
“Detective Harding: Magic, huh? Usually that just means someone's lying.”
Panel 4:Exterior shot of the Grand Majestic Theater at night. Police cars are parked outside, their lights flashing.

Panel 1:Detective Harding is on the stage, examining the empty box. He's wearing gloves.
“Detective Harding: No secret panels, no trap doors… clean as a whistle.”
Panel 2:Close-up on Detective Harding's face. He notices something on the floor – a playing card, the Ace of Spades.
“Detective Harding: What's this?”
Panel 3:Detective Harding questions the stagehands. They look frightened and confused.
“Detective Harding: Did either of you see anything unusual? Anyone backstage who shouldn't have been?”
Panel 4:Detective Harding looks up at the theater's rafters. A single spotlight shines down on him.

“Detective Harding: (To himself) Time to see what secrets Mr. Alberto was hiding.”
Panel 2:Close-up on a hidden compartment behind a mirror. Detective Harding finds a small, locked box.
“Detective Harding: Bingo.”
Panel 3:Detective Harding uses a hairpin to pick the lock on the box. He opens it.
Panel 4:Close-up on the contents of the box: A stack of photographs. The photographs depict The Great Alberto meeting with shady figures in dark alleyways.
“Detective Harding: (Narrating) Magic wasn't his only act.”
Panel 5:Detective Harding looking out the window. Rain is starting to fall. He looks determined.
“Detective Harding: This just got a whole lot more complicated.”
