Panel 1:Wide establishing shot of Clarissa Barnes's apartment interior. Clothes, sketches, and scraps of fabric are scattered across a bed and floor. Clarissa stands in the centre of the room in her green jacket, blue jeans, and black top, her red hair loose, hands on her hips, staring at the mess around her. Her emerald pendant glints at her collarbone.
Narrator:“Millhaven City. The morning after everything changed.”
Panel 2:Close-up on Clarissa's face, green eyes narrowed in determination, jaw set. Pencil sketches of costume designs are pinned to the wall behind her head.
“Clarissa Barnes/ Emerald Essence: A hero needs a real costume. Not a jacket and good intentions.”
Panel 3:Medium shot. Clarissa holds up a bright yellow spandex bodysuit at arm's length, her face scrunching in visible disgust.
“Clarissa Barnes/ Emerald Essence: Absolutely not.”
Panel 4:Medium shot. Clarissa now holds a bulky homemade padded vest—grey foam panels duct-taped together. She raises an eyebrow, deadpan.
“Clarissa Barnes/ Emerald Essence: I look like a mattress.”
Panel 5:Medium shot. Clarissa holds a sleek all-black tactical outfit, tilting her head. It looks functional but plain. She frowns.
“Clarissa Barnes/ Emerald Essence: Too grim. I want people to feel safe, not scared.”
PAGE 2
Panel 1:Wide shot. Clarissa slumps into an armchair, surrounded by rejected costume attempts piled around her. She looks deflated, elbows on knees, chin resting in her hands.
Narrator:“An hour later. The pile grows. The answer doesn't.”
Panel 2:Insert close-up shot of Clarissa's hand resting on her chest, fingertips touching the emerald pendant. The pendant glows with a faint inner green light.
Panel 3:Medium-close shot. Clarissa straightens in the chair, eyes wide, as green light erupts from the pendant and floods outward across her body in crackling arcs.
“Clarissa Barnes/ Emerald Essence: What—?”
Panel 4:Full-page-height vertical panel (tall and narrow). Clarissa stands upright, arms raised, engulfed in a swirling vortex of green and brown energy. Her civilian clothes are gone. Armoured plates of green and brown are forming over her body, layer by layer, as if grown from living bark and emerald crystal.
PAGE 3
Panel 1:Full splash panel. Emerald Essence/Clarissa Barnes stands revealed in her completed green and brown armour. Interlocking plates of deep forest green and rich earth brown cover her torso, arms, and legs. A green eye mask frames her green eyes. Her red hair flows free from beneath a sculpted pauldron. She holds both arms slightly out from her sides, looking down at herself in awe.
Narrator:“The answer she was looking for had been around her neck all along.”
Panel 2:Close-up on Emerald Essence's face. She wears the green eye mask. Her expression shifts from awe to a slow, wide grin.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Now that's a costume.”
Panel 3:Medium shot. Emerald Essence stands in front of a full-length mirror. The armour fits perfectly. She raises one gauntleted fist and studies it closely.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Strong. Light. Like it grew for me.”
Panel 4:Medium-close shot. Emerald Essence turns toward the apartment window, the city skyline visible behind the glass. Her posture straightens—shoulders back, chin up.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Millhaven needs a guardian. Time to start guarding.”
Panel 5:Wide exterior shot. Emerald Essence launches upward from the apartment window, arms spread, arcing into the bright morning sky above Millhaven City's rooftops. The city stretches out below her in all directions.
PAGE 4
Panel 1:Establishing aerial wide shot. Millhaven City spread below, streets busy with morning traffic and pedestrians. Emerald Essence is a small green-and-brown figure banking through the sky between skyscrapers, her armour catching the sunlight.
Narrator:“First patrol. Every block a new story.”
Panel 2:Medium shot. Emerald Essence hovers above a park, looking down. Below her a man helps a child retrieve a kite from a tree. She smiles behind her mask.
Panel 3:Wide shot. Emerald Essence banks left over the commercial district, a row of small shops and a convenience store below. A black van with its engine running is parked crookedly on the kerb outside the store, hazard lights off, no driver visible.
Narrator:“Then — something wrong.”
Panel 4:Close-up on Emerald Essence's masked face, eyes narrowed, looking down intently. Her ultra-sensitive hearing is depicted by small stylised sound-wave lines radiating from her ears — a visual shorthand for her power activating.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Raised voices inside. Someone's crying.”
Panel 5:Medium shot. Emerald Essence drops into a controlled dive, arms close to her body, armour plates catching the light as she plunges toward the street below.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Not on my watch.”
Panel 6:Wide shot. Emerald Essence lands hard on the pavement outside the convenience store in a three-point hero stance, cracking the concrete beneath her armoured fist. The black van looms beside her.
PAGE 5
Panel 1:Wide interior shot of the convenience store. Three masked gang members in black hoodies are spread across the store. One holds a pistol aimed at the terrified cashier behind the counter. A second is scooping cash from the register. The third stands guard by the door, a crowbar in hand.
“Voss: Faster! We're on a clock!”
Panel 2:Medium shot. Voss — the gang leader — stands centre store, mask pulled down, revealing a hard-faced man in his thirties. He holds his pistol steady, scanning the room with cold authority.
“Voss: Nobody moves and nobody gets hurt.”
Panel 3:Wide shot. The front window of the convenience store EXPLODES inward in a shower of glass as Emerald Essence crashes through it, landing in a combat stance on the store floor. Glass glitters around her armoured form.
Panel 4:Over-the-shoulder shot from behind Emerald Essence. Across the store floor, Voss and his two gang members stare at her, frozen in shock. Voss's pistol arm drops slightly.
“Voss: What in the—”
Panel 5:Close-up on Emerald Essence's masked face, green eyes steady and fierce, jaw set. Green light pulses faintly at the edges of her eye mask.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Store's closed. Put the gun down.”
PAGE 6
Panel 1:Wide action shot. The guard gang member swings the crowbar at Emerald Essence. She sidesteps, letting the bar ring off her armoured forearm with a flash of sparks, her feet planted wide.
Panel 2:Medium shot. Emerald Essence grabs a nearby shelf with one gauntleted hand and vines erupt from her palm, wrapping rapidly around the crowbar gang member's wrists and ankles, pinning him to the shelf unit.
Panel 3:Wide shot. The second gang member—the cash-grabber—sprints for the back exit, bag of cash in hand. Emerald Essence extends one arm toward the door. A thick vine shoots from her palm, snakes across the floor, and tangles around his ankles. He goes down hard, the bag of cash skidding away.
Panel 4:Medium-close shot. Voss levels his pistol directly at Emerald Essence with both hands, teeth bared. His mask is fully down, face exposed, eyes furious.
“Voss: You don't know who you're messing with, lady.”
Panel 5:Medium shot. Emerald Essence stands completely still, arms at her sides, facing Voss's gun. Her armour plates shift and lock together visibly across her chest in response to the threat.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: I'm the one who just took out your crew. Your move.”
Panel 6:Close-up on Voss's hand. His grip on the pistol loosens. The gun lowers slightly. His knuckles are white, then releasing.
PAGE 7
Panel 1:Wide shot. Voss drops the pistol to the floor with a clatter. He raises both hands above his head. Emerald Essence stands before him, vines growing from the floor around her feet. The two immobilised gang members are visible in the background, wrapped in vines.
“Voss: Okay. Okay—I'm done.”
Panel 2:Medium shot. Emerald Essence gestures toward the cashier with one gauntleted hand. Thick vines bind Voss's wrists together in front of him. She looks toward the cashier.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Everyone okay? Call the police.”
Panel 3:Wide exterior shot. Millhaven City police cruisers screech to a halt outside the shattered store window, lights flashing. Emerald Essence stands in the doorway, silhouetted by the police lights, three vine-bound gang members behind her on the store floor.
Narrator:“Millhaven PD arrives in under three minutes.”
Panel 4:Medium shot. A police officer — Officer Reyes, badge visible — stares up at Emerald Essence in her armour, eyes wide, hand on her holster but not drawing. Emerald Essence meets her gaze steadily.
“Officer Reyes: You did this? Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: Three inside. Weapons on the floor. No one's hurt.”
Panel 5:Medium shot. Officer Reyes lowers her hand from her holster. She gives a small, stiff nod of acknowledgement toward Emerald Essence.
“Officer Reyes: We'll take it from here. Don't go far.”
PAGE 8
Panel 1:Wide shot. Emerald Essence stands on the edge of a rooftop above the convenience store. Below, police cruisers and a gathering crowd surround the store entrance. The city stretches out behind her in full morning light.
Narrator:“Above the sirens and the crowd — a moment to breathe.”
Panel 2:Close-up on Emerald Essence's gauntleted hand. She lifts it and opens the palm. A single small green vine curls up from her fingers, a tiny flower blooming at its tip.
Panel 3:Medium-close shot of Emerald Essence's masked face in profile, looking out over the city. The tiny flower is visible in her palm. Her expression is calm and resolved.
“Emerald Essence/ Clarissa Barnes: This city grew me. Time to protect it.”
Panel 4:Extreme wide shot. Emerald Essence leaps from the rooftop edge, arms spread, taking flight upward into the vast blue morning sky above Millhaven City. She is a small but brilliant green-and-brown figure rising above the skyline, the sun blazing behind her.
Narrator:“The Emerald Guardian. Millhaven City will never be the same.”
