PAGE 1

Panel 1:Aerial view of a crowded city street at dawn. Among the pedestrians, a young man — Trane — stands out: he wears a black Asian hat pulled down over his eyes, a worn jacket, and carries a duffel bag over one shoulder. He stares up at a crumbling stone building with a faded sign reading 'Chen's Academy.'

Panel 2:Close-up on Trane's face from the chin up — the black hat's brim cuts across where his eyes would be, concealing them entirely. His jaw is set, lips pressed in a tight line. Sweat already beads on his temple.

Panel 3:Trane pushes open a heavy wooden door into a dim courtyard. Inside, an elderly man — Master Chen — stands with hands clasped behind his back, robes still, watching the entrance. Stone training dummies line the walls.

“Master Chen: You are late by three years. Trane: I am here now.”

Panel 4:Master Chen extends one open palm toward the center of the courtyard — a vast open stone floor, cracked and worn smooth by decades of footwork. A single wooden training post stands in the center.

“Master Chen: Show me what you already know.”

Panel 5:Trane drops his duffel bag, rolls his shoulders back, and steps into a wide fighting stance in the center of the courtyard. His hat stays perfectly level on his head. His fists rise.

PAGE 2

Panel 1:Trane throws a punch at the wooden training post. His knuckles strike it hard — splinters fly. His body leans into the blow, feet planted wide.

Panel 2:Master Chen watches from the side, arms folded, face unreadable. He shakes his head slowly from side to side — a single, deliberate motion.

“Master Chen: Strength without root is just falling forward.”

Panel 3:Trane's knuckles are split and bleeding. He stares down at his own open hand, blood dripping onto the stone floor. His shoulders are heaving.

Panel 4:Master Chen crouches beside a bucket of cold water and ice. He lifts it and carries it toward Trane with both hands, expression calm.

“Master Chen: Pain is the first lesson. Survive it.”

Panel 5:Trane plunges both fists into the ice bucket. He grits his teeth — jaw clenched, tendons in his neck taut — but he does not pull back.

Panel 6:Wide shot of the courtyard. Trane kneels over the bucket, hat still low over his eyes. Master Chen stands behind him, arms folded, a tiny nod visible on his face.

PAGE 3

Panel 1:A montage-style wide panel split into three stacked horizontal strips: Strip 1 — Trane runs up steep city stairs at sunrise, legs pumping. Strip 2 — Trane holds a low horse stance on the rooftop, arms shaking, while rain pours. Strip 3 — Trane meditates cross-legged in the courtyard at night, candles burning around him.

Narrator:“Weeks pass. The body breaks. The body rebuilds.”

Panel 2:Master Chen stands in the courtyard holding a long bamboo staff horizontally. He thrusts it at Trane's midsection without warning.

“Master Chen: React — do not think!”

Panel 3:Trane sidesteps the staff with a sharp pivot, his foot sliding across the stone, one hand deflecting the bamboo away. His hat stays on.

Panel 4:Master Chen lowers the staff and looks at Trane for a long beat. He sets the staff against the wall and clasps his hands behind his back.

“Master Chen: Better. Now do it a thousand more times.”

PAGE 4

Panel 1:Night. Trane sits alone on the academy rooftop, back against a water tower, knees drawn up to his chest. The city glows orange around him. His hat is still on, brim low.

Narrator:“Some nights, the body says enough.”

Panel 2:Master Chen climbs through the rooftop access door and walks toward Trane with two cups of tea. He sits down beside him on the ledge.

“Master Chen: You are still here. Trane: Where else would I go?”

Panel 3:Trane holds the tea cup with both wrapped hands. Steam rises into the night air. His head tilts slightly downward.

“Trane: What if I am not good enough?”

Panel 4:Master Chen stares out at the city skyline, profile to camera. His face is calm, lined with age. He sips his tea slowly before speaking.

“Master Chen: Everyone who mastered anything asked that question. The ones who quit got their answer.”

Panel 5:Side-by-side on the ledge, both men drink their tea in silence. The city sprawls below. Trane's posture straightens slightly.

PAGE 5

Panel 1:A rival fighter — Dak — slams through the academy's wooden front door. He is broad-shouldered, wearing a red fighter's vest. Two fighters stand behind him in the doorway.

“Dak: I heard Chen's taking in strays now.”

Panel 2:Master Chen stands in the center of the courtyard, hands clasped behind his back, facing Dak. His expression is flat and unafraid.

“Master Chen: You are not welcome here, Dak.”

Panel 3:Dak cracks his knuckles and grins. He nods toward Trane, who stands at the far end of the courtyard with his fists at his sides.

“Dak: Let the stray prove himself. Fight me.”

Panel 4:Trane turns his head toward Master Chen. Master Chen gives a single slow nod — permission and instruction in one gesture.

Panel 5:Trane steps forward into the center of the courtyard, dropping into his fighting stance. His hat is low, fists raised, feet planted wide. Dak mirrors him from the other side, grinning wide.

PAGE 6

Panel 1:Dak charges with a powerful flying knee. Trane ducks low, the knee sailing over his hat by inches.

Panel 2:Trane drives his elbow hard into Dak's ribs from below as the bigger man passes. Dak's face contorts in pain, body bent sideways.

Panel 3:Dak recovers and grabs Trane by the collar, lifting him off the ground. Trane's feet dangle. His hat stays on.

“Dak: All that training for this?”

Panel 4:Trane swings both legs up and wraps them around Dak's arm, twisting his body into an armbar in midair. Dak's arm bends at a brutal angle.

Panel 5:Dak crashes to the stone floor face-first with Trane landing cleanly on his feet beside him. Dust rises from the impact. Dak does not get up.

Panel 6:Extreme close-up on Trane's hands — knuckles still wrapped in cloth, hovering at his sides, perfectly still. Not shaking.

PAGE 7

Panel 1:Master Chen walks slowly across the courtyard toward Trane. He stops one pace away. His face, for the first time, shows the trace of a smile.

“Master Chen: You used your root. Trane: I remembered what you said.”

Panel 2:Master Chen reaches out and places his open hand on Trane's shoulder — a firm, deliberate gesture of respect.

“Master Chen: You are no longer a student.”

Panel 3:Trane stands upright, hat low, shoulder square. He says nothing. He gives a single deep bow from the waist, both hands at his sides.

Panel 4:Wide shot of the empty courtyard from above. Trane and Master Chen stand facing each other in the center, surrounded by the worn stone floor, the training post, the stone walls. The academy is quiet.

Narrator:“The body survives. The spirit endures. The master emerges.”

PAGE 8

Panel 1:Trane stands alone at the top of the city stairs where he used to train, looking out over the skyline at dusk. The city glows below him. His posture is relaxed but upright, hands clasped at his back — mirroring Master Chen's posture from earlier.

Narrator:“He came with nothing. He leaves carrying everything.”

Panel 2:Close-up on Trane's black hat — the brim, the worn fabric, the slight curve from years of wear. Below it, a sliver of a confident smile on his lips.

Panel 3:Trane turns and walks down the stairs away from camera, silhouetted against the glowing city below. His steps are even, deliberate, unhurried. The city awaits.
