Emerald Midnight pt 1
Tracking Death Skull to coastal Maine, Tamara Collins and her inner guide Maya work to anticipate the mercenary's next move. Across town, reporter Clarissa Barnes — secretly the hero Emerald Essence — has picked up the same trail. Both women, unaware of each other, converge on an abandoned waterfront warehouse in their civilian identities. When they come face to face inside, instinct takes over: Clarissa grabs her emerald pendant and transforms into Emerald Essence while Tamara speaks 'Obsidian Unite' and becomes Midnight Star. The two heroes size each other up — until a gang in skull masks steps out of the shadows, ready to attack.

Panel 1:Wide aerial shot of a grey Maine coastal town at morning — fishing boats in a fog-shrouded harbour, weathered clapboard buildings lining the waterfront, a lighthouse in the distance. A Greyhound bus rolls down the main road into town, headlights cutting through the mist.
Narrator:“Rockport, Maine. A long way from Los Angeles.”
Panel 2:Inside the bus, Tamara Collins sits by the window — white top, blue shorts, jacket — backpack on the seat beside her. Her face is pressed close to the glass, watching the harbour roll past. Dark rings under her eyes from a long overnight ride.
Narrator:“Twenty-two hours. One connection in Boston. Zero sleep.”
Panel 3:Close on Tamara's ear — a faint golden shimmer visible at her temple, indicating Maya's presence — as Tamara tilts her head slightly, listening to the voice only she can hear.
“Maya: Death Skull arrived at least forty-eight hours ahead of us. Whatever she's here for, it's already in motion.”
Panel 4:Tamara leans back in her seat, jaw tight, staring at the ceiling of the bus with her arms folded across her chest.
“Tamara Collins: Then we need to figure out her target before she pulls the trigger.”
PAGE 2
Panel 1:Exterior of the Coastal Globe newspaper office — a modest two-storey brick building on a corner near the harbour. A sign above the door reads 'THE COASTAL GLOBE'. A woman with bright red hair strides through the front door carrying a canvas bag and a coffee cup.
Panel 2:Inside the newsroom — cluttered desks, pinboards covered in clippings. Clarissa Barnes drops her bag on her desk and pins a printed photo to her corkboard: a grainy security-camera image of a figure in black tactical gear and a skull mask.
Narrator:“Clarissa Barnes. Reporter. And something else entirely.”
Panel 3:Close-up on the corkboard: the skull-mask photo is surrounded by printed news clippings — 'MERCENARY SIGHTING: LOS ANGELES DOCKS', 'GANG WAR LINKED TO HIRED OPERATIVE' — and handwritten notes connected by red string.
Panel 4:Clarissa sits at her desk, leaning forward over a laptop, one hand wrapped around her coffee cup. Her other hand rests on a green pendant hanging at her throat — an emerald set in a gold mount. Her expression is focused and alert.
“Clarissa Barnes: A female mercenary for hire shows up in my harbour town. Not on my watch.”
PAGE 3
Panel 1:A narrow side street near the waterfront. Tamara Collins walks with her backpack, hands in jacket pockets, scanning the street carefully. Fishing nets hang between buildings. Seagulls perch on a rusted railing above her.
“Maya: Cross-referencing the data fragment. Three locations flagged near the docks.”
Panel 2:Tamara stops at a corner, glancing at a row of old warehouses visible at the end of the street — large, rusted corrugated iron structures along the dock's edge. One is clearly long-abandoned: boarded windows, chained doors, weeds at the base.
“Tamara Collins: What kind of target brings Death Skull all the way to Maine? Maya: Someone with something worth protecting. Or hiding.”
Panel 3:Close on Tamara's face — eyes narrowed, fixing on the abandoned warehouse at the far end of the dock. Her jaw is set.
Panel 4:Wide shot of the abandoned warehouse from outside — large, dark, chain-link fence around the perimeter with a section of fence cut and peeled back. A skull motif has been spray-painted in black on the corrugated iron wall beside the main doors.
“Maya: Tamara. Skull mark on the wall. Far right.”
Panel 5:Tamara crouches beside the cut fence section, examining the peeled-back chain link. Her fingers touch the edge — fresh, clean cuts, not rust. She looks up at the skull-spray-paint mark.
“Tamara Collins: Someone's already been inside. Maya: Or is still inside.”
PAGE 4
Panel 1:Across the harbour, on a different approach road, Clarissa Barnes walks briskly toward the same waterfront district, canvas bag over her shoulder, red hair catching the sea breeze. She holds a folded printout in one hand — a map with a circle drawn on it near the docks.
Narrator:“The skull marks. Three witnesses. All pointing the same way.”
Panel 2:Clarissa stops at the same chain-link perimeter fence of the abandoned warehouse, looking through the gaps at the dark building beyond. She spots the skull spray-paint mark on the wall. Her hand moves to the emerald pendant at her throat — fingers close around it but do not yet activate it.
“Clarissa Barnes: There you are.”
Panel 3:Clarissa looks left, then right — no one watching — then ducks through the cut section of fence and moves toward the warehouse door, staying low.
Panel 4:Inside the warehouse — dark, cavernous, shafts of grey light piercing through gaps in the boarded windows. Rusted machinery lines the walls. Tamara Collins is already inside, moving carefully between old crates, phone torch in hand, scanning the floor. She freezes when she hears footsteps.
“Maya: Someone just came through the entrance behind you.”
PAGE 5
Panel 1:Tamara ducks behind a large rusted machine housing, pressing her back flat against it, phone torch clicked off. She peers around the edge — a silhouette is moving through the warehouse from the far entrance, careful and low.
Panel 2:Clarissa moves through the shadows on the other side of the warehouse floor, canvas bag on her back, eyes adjusting to the dark. She spots the silhouette of Tamara crouched near the machinery. Both women freeze — staring at each other across the dark space.
Panel 3:Medium shot of both women standing upright, facing each other across five metres of dusty warehouse floor. Clarissa has her chin up, posture guarded. Tamara has both hands visible at her sides, equally wary. A beat of silent assessment.
Panel 4:Close on Clarissa's face — sharp green eyes, jaw tight, reading the stranger in front of her.
“Clarissa Barnes: You're not Death Skull.”
Panel 5:Close on Tamara's face — dark eyes narrowed, expression guarded but sharp.
“Tamara Collins: No. And neither are you. So what are you doing here?”
PAGE 6
Panel 1:Medium two-shot of both women facing each other. Clarissa has crossed her arms. Tamara has her hands on her hips. Neither has moved closer. Dust motes hang in the grey light between them.
“Clarissa Barnes: Same thing as you, I'm guessing. Following the skull marks. Tamara Collins: You're a reporter. I've seen your byline. Coastal Globe.”
Panel 2:Clarissa raises an eyebrow — a flicker of surprise at being recognised, quickly controlled. Tamara watches her reaction carefully.
“Clarissa Barnes: You read the Globe? Tamara Collins: Maya flagged your Death Skull piece. Good research.”
Panel 3:A long beat. Clarissa looks Tamara up and down — clocking the backpack, the out-of-town vibe, the deliberate calm of someone who's been in dangerous situations before.
“Clarissa Barnes: You're not from Maine. You tracked her here from somewhere else.”
Panel 4:Before Tamara can answer — a CRASH from the deep shadows at the far end of the warehouse. Both women snap their heads toward the sound. Multiple shapes move in the darkness beyond the machinery.
Panel 5:Close on Clarissa's right hand — fingers close tightly around the emerald pendant at her throat, green light beginning to pulse between her knuckles.
Panel 6:Close on Tamara's face, eyes hard and decided, lips parting to speak.
“Tamara Collins: Obsidian Unite.”
PAGE 7
Panel 1:Full-height two-panel wide shot: on the left, Emerald Essence stands in her green and gold costume and green eye mask, red hair cascading behind her, emerald light radiating from her pendant. On the right, Midnight Star stands in her black and gold costume and black eye mask, golden-black energy fading around her fists. Both heroes face each other across the warehouse floor, neither attacking — just reading the other.
Panel 2:Over-shoulder shot from behind Midnight Star looking at Emerald Essence. Emerald Essence has her chin raised, green eyes studying the black and gold costume — recognition crossing her face.
“Emerald Essence: Midnight Star. I've heard of you. Midnight Star: Emerald Essence. Likewise.”
Panel 3:Wide shot of the full warehouse interior — both heroes standing in the centre as, from the deep shadows at three separate points around them, figures step forward: eight gang members in black tactical clothing, each wearing a white skull mask. They carry chains and batons. Closing in from all sides.
Panel 4:Close on one skull-masked gang member's face — blank white skull mask, dark eyes visible through the sockets, a length of chain dangling from one fist.
PAGE 8
Panel 1:Midnight Star and Emerald Essence stand back to back in the centre of the warehouse floor, both in combat stance. The circle of skull-masked gang members tightens around them — chains swinging, batons raised. Neither hero has struck yet.
Panel 2:Over-shoulder from behind Emerald Essence looking at Midnight Star's profile. Midnight Star glances sideways at Emerald Essence — a quick, assessing look.
“Midnight Star: We can argue about why we're both here later. Emerald Essence: Agreed.”
Panel 3:High above on the warehouse's upper gantry — a single figure stands in silhouette, looking down at the scene below: Death Skull, skull mask glinting, three-way crossbow resting across one arm. She watches the two heroes surrounded. She does not move to intervene.
Narrator:“Death Skull had planned for one hero. Not two.”
Panel 4:Extreme wide shot of the entire warehouse interior from above — Midnight Star and Emerald Essence at the centre, surrounded by the ring of skull-masked gang members, the gantry above with Death Skull's silhouette watching. Two small islands of gold and green light in a sea of shadow and skulls.
Narrator:“To be continued...”
