Tru: The Barber of Justice
Tru is an Army veteran and barber who runs a military-themed barbershop in the city and loves tacos. His friends call him T-shizzle but he kind of hates it. By night, he operates as a vigilante, driven by a personal code of justice. When a dangerous criminal organization begins terrorizing his neighborhood, Tru must balance his duties as a husband to Adaijah and friend to Dean—his best friend and fellow veteran—while taking down the threat himself. Until Adaijah and Dean decide they’re not letting him go alone. The issue establishes Tru's double life, his unshakeable moral compass, and his willingness to cross lines others won't to protect those he loves.
Tru, an Army veteran and barber, runs a military-themed barbershop by day while operating as a vigilante by night, driven by an unshakeable moral code. His wife Adaijah and best friend Dean—both fellow veterans—discover his secret vigilante activities and refuse to let him fight alone. Panel 1:Tru stands in a fighting stance, arms raised. Gaylord snarls, his bulging blue eyes wide with rage. Juan Pablo raises the crowbar. The shop owner presses himself against the brick wall, terrified.
“Gaylord: Who the hell are you?”
Panel 2:Tru moves with military precision. His right fist connects with Gaylord's jaw. Gaylord's head snaps back. Juan Pablo swings the crowbar, but Tru sidesteps, the weapon missing by inches.
Panel 3:Tru grabs Juan Pablo's wrist and twists. The crowbar falls from his grip and clatters on the pavement. Juan Pablo drops to his knees in pain. Gaylord staggers backward, blood at the corner of his mouth.
“Tru: Tell your boss: this neighborhood is off limits.”
Narrator:“Tru's code is simple. Protect those who cannot protect themselves.”
Panel 4:The shop owner stares at Tru with gratitude and confusion. Tru helps him to his feet. In the background, Gaylord and Juan Pablo retreat into the shadows, nursing their injuries.
“Shop Owner: Thank you. Thank you.”
Panel 5:Tru stands alone in the alley, watching the shadows where Gaylord and Juan Pablo disappeared. His breathing is controlled. He is still masked. The crowbar lies at his feet.
Narrator:“But protecting his neighborhood means crossing lines. Lines most people won't cross.”

Panel 1:Tru's apartment, early morning. Tru enters through the bedroom window, still in tactical gear. He moves silently. Adaijah is awake, sitting up in bed, blue eyes tracking his every movement. She does not look surprised.
Panel 2:Tru freezes. He and Adaijah lock eyes. Her blue eyes are steady, calm, knowing. She does not flinch. He removes his mask slowly, revealing his face.
“Adaijah : How many times this month?”
Panel 3:Tru sits on the edge of the bed, still in tactical gear. Adaijah remains upright. The space between them is tense. Tru's hands hang at his sides.
“Tru: Twice. The Hendersons' store. Tonight, the corner market. Adaijah : You could have been killed.”
Panel 4:Adaijah swings her legs out of bed. She wears a tank top and sleep pants. Her blue eyes are fierce. She stands and faces Tru directly.
“Adaijah : I can’t stand wondering if you’re ok, if you’ll come home to me.”
Panel 5:Tru and Adaijah stand facing each other. The tension between them is thick but not hostile. Adaijah's hand reaches out and touches Tru's chest, over his heart. Her expression shifts from anger to resolve.
“Adaijah : I wish you’d let me help.”

Panel 1:Tru's Barbershop, morning. Tru cuts the hair of an older customer in one chair. In another chair, Dean sits waiting for his turn. Dean has brown hair, blue eyes, and is tall. He wears a casual shirt and jeans. He watches Tru work with casual interest.
“Customer: Same cut as always, Tru. Keep it sharp.”
Panel 2:Tru finishes the customer's cut. The customer stands, inspects himself in the mirror, and nods with satisfaction. He reaches for his wallet. Dean watches from the waiting chair, his blue eyes tracking Tru's movements with unusual intensity.
“Customer: Perfect. Same time next week?”
Panel 3:The customer leaves. Dean stands and moves to the barber chair. He sits and faces Tru in the mirror. Tru wraps the cape around Dean's neck. Dean's blue eyes meet Tru's in the mirror reflection.
“Dean: You look tired, brother.”
Panel 4:Tru begins cutting Dean's hair, moving with practiced efficiency. Dean's eyes remain fixed on Tru's face in the mirror. The shop is quiet except for the soft snip of scissors.
“Tru: Late night. Nothing serious. Dean: Don't lie to me, T-shizzle.”
Panel 5:Tru pauses mid-cut. His jaw tightens. He looks at Dean's face in the mirror—Dean's blue eyes are serious, not joking. Tru sets the scissors down slowly.
“Tru: And stop calling me that.”

Panel 1:Tru's Barbershop, afternoon. Tru and Dean sit at a small table in the back room, away from the storefront. A laptop is open on the table. Maps and surveillance photos of the neighborhood are spread out. Tru points to several locations marked with red circles. Dean leans in, studying the locations.
“Tru: Gaylord and Juan Pablo. Running extortion through six blocks.”
Panel 2:Dean traces a finger across the map, connecting the marked locations. His blue eyes narrow with tactical focus. He looks up at Tru with a mixture of concern and understanding.
“Dean: This is bigger than street-level thugs. Who's running them?”
Panel 3:Tru leans back in his chair. His brown eyes are dark with frustration. He runs a hand over his black hair.
“Tru: Don't know yet. But I'm going to find out.”
Panel 4:Dean stands abruptly. He walks to the door of the back room and looks out toward the storefront, ensuring they are alone. His tall frame is silhouetted against the light from the shop.
“Dean: I'm in.”
Panel 5:Tru stands and faces Dean. The two men lock eyes. Tru's hand extends and grips Dean's shoulder. Dean nods, his blue eyes steady and resolute.
“Tru: This gets dangerous. Dean: I know. We're going to end it.”

Panel 1:A warehouse on the industrial edge of the city. The building is dark, with broken windows and graffiti. A single light burns inside. Outside, Tru, Adaijah, and Dean move silently along the perimeter, staying in shadows. All three wear tactical gear. Tru's right forearm tattoo is visible.
Narrator:“Gaylord and Juan Pablo report to someone. Someone who profits from fear.”
Panel 2:Through a broken window, the interior is visible. Gaylord and Juan Pablo stand before a desk. A large man sits behind it, his face obscured by shadow. Only his silhouette is clear—broad shoulders, powerful build.
“Gaylord: The masked guy took us down. Both of us.”
Panel 3:Outside the warehouse, Tru watches through the window. His brown eyes narrow with focus. Adaijah crouches beside him, her hand on her weapon. Dean is on the opposite side of the window, watching the other angle.
Panel 4:Inside, the boss leans forward. His face remains mostly shadowed, but his hand slams on the desk, and his voice rises in anger. Gaylord and Juan Pablo flinch.
“Boss: Find him. I want that masked vigilante dead.”
Panel 5:Outside, Tru's jaw clenches. He exchanges a glance with Adaijah, then with Dean. The three nod in silent agreement. This is personal now. This is war.
Narrator:“Tru's code is about protection. But protection sometimes requires elimination.”
