Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

1. Introduction

ComicInk ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website, mobile applications (including our iOS app), and related services. Please read this policy carefully. By using ComicInk on any platform, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the information you choose to share (name and email address, which may be a private relay address if you choose to hide your email).
  • Payment Information: On the web, our payment processor (Stripe) collects payment card details. In our iOS app, purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store — we receive transaction confirmation and product identifiers but do not receive or store your payment card details. We do not store your full credit card number on any platform.
  • Content You Create: We store the comics, characters, stories, prompts, and other content you create using our Service. For Story Videos, this also includes your video scenes, scene and shot descriptions, the dialogue and narration text you write, and the generated videos and their audio (including the synthetic spoken voices).
  • Communications: If you contact us, we collect the information you provide in your messages.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you use our Service, including pages visited, features used, and actions taken.
  • Device Information: We collect information about the device you use to access our Service, including device type, operating system, browser type, and on mobile devices, device model and OS version.
  • Log Data: Our servers automatically record information including your IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
  • Cookies and Local Storage: On the web, we use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session and remember your preferences. On mobile, we use secure on-device storage for authentication tokens and preferences.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
  • Process transactions and send related information
  • Send you technical notices, updates, and support messages
  • Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns and trends
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity
  • Personalize and improve your experience
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. AI Processing and Your Content

ComicInk uses multiple third-party AI services to generate stories, images, video, and audio, to power the in-editor assistant, and to ensure content safety. Here's how your data is handled by each provider:

Story and Script Generation (Anthropic, with Google Gemini fallback)

  • What is sent: Your text prompts, character descriptions, world and setting details, story arc context, and previous issue synopses are sent to Anthropic (provided by Anthropic PBC) to generate story outlines and page scripts. If Anthropic is unavailable, the same inputs are sent to Google Gemini (provided by Google LLC) instead. When you convert a book, the text extracted from the PDF you upload is sent the same way.
  • Google Gemini is also used on its own for shorter supporting tasks — character and asset definitions, cover prompts, translations, and expanding a description — and to convert a question you type into our help assistant into a numeric representation so we can search our help articles.
  • Data handling: These providers may temporarily process this data but do not retain it for training purposes under our API agreements.

In-Editor Assistant (OpenRouter, currently routing to OpenAI)

  • What is sent: When you chat with the in-editor assistant, we send the messages you write together with the working context it needs to answer them: the script of the issue you have open, its page and panel text, your character and asset names and descriptions, series and issue details, and the earlier messages in that conversation. If you ask about a page that has been drawn, the image of that page is sent as well so the assistant can see it. If you attach a file, its contents are sent.
  • Who receives it: This content is transmitted to OpenRouter (provided by OpenRouter, Inc.), which routes it to the model we have configured. That model is currently GPT-5.6 Luna, provided by OpenAI. We may change the model we route to — including to a model from a different provider — as better options become available, and this page names the current one.
  • Data handling: OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to each process your request under their own privacy and usage terms. Your account and payment information (email, name, payment data) is never included.

Image Generation (fal.ai)

  • What is sent: Your text prompts, art style preferences, character reference images, user-uploaded reference images, and image dimensions are sent to fal.ai (provided by Fal Inc.) for AI image generation. fal.ai hosts AI models from multiple providers, including ByteDance (Seedream) and Google (Gemini), to generate your images.
  • Data handling: fal.ai processes your data to generate images and may temporarily store inputs during processing. Generated images are downloaded to our servers and associated with your account.

Video Generation (fal.ai)

  • What is sent: For Story Videos, your scene prompts and descriptions, the dialogue and narration text for each scene, and your character and asset reference images are sent to fal.ai (provided by Fal Inc.) to render video. fal.ai routes these inputs to the underlying video model you use, which may include models from ByteDance (Seedance), Google (Veo), Alibaba (Wan), PixVerse, and Kling.
  • Data handling: These providers process your inputs to render the video and may temporarily store them during processing. Some of these providers operate outside the United States — see "International Data Transfers" below. The rendered video is downloaded to our servers and associated with your account.

Audio Processing (fal.ai)

  • What is sent: To align and clean up the spoken dialogue in a video, we process the audio that the AI video model itself generated. That AI-generated audio, together with the dialogue text, is sent through fal.ai to ElevenLabs (audio isolation), OpenAI Whisper (transcription), and F5-TTS (speech synthesis).
  • No recording of your voice: The synthetic voices in your videos are generated entirely from the AI video model's own output. We do not capture, request, record, or store your real voice, and we do not create a voiceprint or biometric profile of you.

Content Moderation (Anthropic, with OpenAI fallback)

  • What is sent: Before content is generated or stored, we run automated safety classification to prevent prohibited content. This covers both (a) the text you write — synopses, character and panel descriptions, story input, and messages to the in-editor assistant — and (b) the images you upload as reference photos, character portraits, or comic pages. This content is sent to Anthropic (provided by Anthropic PBC) for classification. OpenAI's moderation API (provided by OpenAI Inc.) is used as a fallback.
  • Data handling: These providers process the submitted text or image solely to classify it for safety and do not retain it to train their models under our API agreements. Your account and payment information (email, name, payment data) is never included.

General

  • Personal Information: Your personal information (email, name, payment data) is never included in data sent to any AI provider.
  • Generated Content: All AI-generated images and stories are stored on our servers and associated with your account.
  • Training: We do not use your content to train our own AI models. Your prompts, scripts, reference images, and generated outputs are sent to third-party AI providers to produce your results, and those providers process your inputs under their own privacy and usage terms, which may differ between providers. We encourage you to review the terms of the providers listed in this section.

5. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We share data with third-party vendors who help us operate our Service, including:
    • Supabase (database and authentication)
    • Stripe (web payment processing)
    • Apple (App Store in-app purchase processing)
    • Anthropic (AI story and script generation; content moderation and safety classification of text and uploaded images)
    • Google Gemini (story and script generation fallback; character/asset definitions, cover prompts, translations, and help-article search)
    • OpenRouter (routing layer for the in-editor assistant — it passes your assistant conversations to the model provider we have configured)
    • OpenAI (the model currently powering the in-editor assistant; content moderation fallback; and audio transcription for Story Videos)
    • fal.ai (AI image and video generation infrastructure, hosting models from ByteDance, Google, Alibaba, PixVerse, and Kling)
    • Audio processing via fal.ai (ElevenLabs for audio isolation, OpenAI Whisper for transcription, and F5-TTS for speech synthesis — applied to AI-generated video audio)
    • Cloud hosting providers (Vercel)
    • PostHog (analytics — with your consent on web; used on mobile for product analytics)
    • Google Analytics and Google Ads (web usage analytics and advertising — with your consent)
    • Plausible (privacy-friendly, cookieless web analytics — no personal data collected)
    • Sentry (error tracking and application monitoring on web and mobile)
  • Published Content: If you choose to publish your comics, they become publicly accessible.
  • Collaborators: If you invite collaborators to your comics, they can access the shared content.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.
  • Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit using TLS/SSL
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Access controls limiting who can access your data
  • Secure authentication mechanisms

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. The content you create — including comics, images, and your generated videos and their audio — is retained with your account and is deleted or anonymized when you delete the content or your account. Transient inputs sent to AI providers to render a generation are short-lived and handled under those providers' own retention practices. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You can request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: You can request that we delete your personal information.
  • Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Cookie Preferences: You can decline analytics cookies via our consent banner, or change your preference at any time by clearing local storage and revisiting the site.
  • Opt-Out: You can opt out of marketing communications at any time.
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account through your account settings or by contacting us.

To exercise these rights, please contact us at superhero@comicink.ai.

9. Cookies, Tracking Technologies, and Mobile Analytics

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies across our platforms for different purposes. We categorize these into two groups:

Necessary (Always Active)

  • Keep you signed in to your account (cookies on web, secure on-device storage on mobile)
  • Remember your preferences and settings
  • Sentry: We use Sentry on both web and mobile to monitor application errors and crashes. This helps us identify and fix bugs quickly. Sentry collects error data, stack traces, and basic device information. It does not track your browsing behavior or build a profile of you. This is always active as it is essential for maintaining service reliability.
  • Plausible: We use Plausible for privacy-friendly web analytics. Plausible is cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, uses no persistent identifier, and does not track you across websites or build a profile of you. It records only aggregate measures such as page views, referring site, and general device type. Because it collects no personal data and no cookies are involved, it is always active and is not covered by the analytics consent banner. Plausible data is hosted in the European Union.

Analytics

On the Web (Requires Your Consent)

The following services are only activated after you accept analytics cookies via our consent banner:

  • PostHog: We use PostHog for product analytics and session recording. PostHog tracks page views, feature usage, and may record your browsing session (with all form inputs masked) to help us understand how users interact with ComicInk and improve the experience. PostHog data is hosted in the United States.
  • Google Analytics & Google Ads: We use Google Analytics to understand website traffic and usage patterns, and Google Ads to measure advertising effectiveness. Google may use this data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Sentry Session Replay: When you consent to analytics, Sentry may also record session replays when errors occur, helping us reproduce and fix bugs. All form inputs are masked in these recordings.

On Mobile

  • PostHog: We use PostHog in our mobile app to collect product analytics such as feature usage and user actions. This helps us understand how users interact with the app and improve the experience. PostHog on mobile does not record sessions or screen recordings.
  • Sentry: We use Sentry in our mobile app to capture crash reports and error data, helping us maintain app stability.
  • No Ad Tracking: Our mobile app does not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Your Choices

On the web: When you first visit ComicInk, you will see a consent banner asking you to accept or decline analytics cookies. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for our site and revisiting, which will display the consent banner again. You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Declining analytics cookies does not affect your ability to use ComicInk.

On mobile: You can limit data collection by adjusting your device privacy settings. On iOS, you can disable analytics sharing in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements. Uninstalling the app will stop all data collection.

10. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 18, please contact us immediately.

11. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. In particular, some of the video and audio model providers used for Story Videos operate outside the United States, including in China (such as ByteDance, Alibaba, PixVerse, and Kling). When you render a video, the prompts, dialogue text, and reference images for that scene may be processed by those providers in their jurisdictions. By using our Service — and the video generation features in particular — you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the United States and in other countries where we and our service providers operate.

12. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Washington Residents

ComicInk operates from Washington State. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not collect biometric identifiers or voiceprints — the synthetic voices in Story Videos are generated by AI models from their own output and are not derived from any recording of your voice. We also do not collect consumer health data, so the Washington My Health My Data Act does not apply to our Service. You may exercise the access, correction, and deletion choices described above by contacting us.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
